Hello,
I’ve been trying for about 6 days to recreate or get close to a Starfield-style map. I had already created my own landscape, but then I saw a video of the game and really liked one of its planets — Kreet — so I spent 4 days trying to recreate it. That didn’t work out. After a lot of frustration, I decided to try with a different planet from the same game: Hyla II. I thought it would be easier since that planet uses more vegetation, which might help mask any differences.
But when I started searching for similar plants, I could only find a few. I used the closest ones I could find. In my project, I imported a heightmap from ARK that someone recreated and shared in a 2016 post. I like the terrain, but the atmosphere I’m trying to achieve — both for the ground and the foliage — just isn’t working. I can’t get anything to feel right. No similar models, no similar environments, nothing.
I’ve tried procedural grass using grass types, but it doesn’t look good. I also tried the foliage tool, tested different assets, different scales, density, color variations — nothing has worked. I even searched YouTube for tutorials on how to recreate a dinosaur-era landscape, since the Starfield planet I’m using for reference has a prehistoric vibe. But I haven’t found anything truly helpful.
I waited until the very last moment — after trying everything I could — to make this post and ask for help. Over the last 6 days, I’ve been working non-stop, from the moment I woke up to the moment I went to bed, sleeping just 5 hours a night and then trying again. But now I’ve reached a point where I really need someone to help me.
I’m working on this project in UEFN, though I’m using some basic Unreal Engine assets as well.
Please, if anyone knows how I can get closer to what I’m trying to create — or at least something I can feel satisfied with — I’d really appreciate the help.
I’m attaching reference images of the style I’m aiming for.
Note on reference images:
The screenshots I share are official images from the game Starfield (developed by Bethesda) and are used solely for inspiration and visual reference purposes for the style I’m trying to recreate in my map.
My project is an original map created in UEFN for Fortnite, without copying game content or using proprietary assets. The images are not part of the map and will not be distributed; I simply want to convey the atmosphere and visual style I’m aiming for.
I appreciate your understanding and help.
