Unsupported file types on Fab

We do our best to support the most commonly used game engine, 3D, image, and text formats. This includes the top-level formats you can add to your listings, as well as any extra files included in your uploads.

We do not allow executables or program installer files, and we do not allow archive formats except for .zip.

The list below is not exhaustive, but here are some common examples of file types that are not accepted on Fab:

  • Executables and installers
    • .exe
    • .0
    • .iso
    • .dmg
  • Archive formats
    • .rar
    • .7z
    • .z
    • .gz
    • .tar
    • zip64

For additional information, we invite you to check out Asset File Format and Structure Requirements and Fab Technical Requirements.

Seems like an answer to my support request.

In my case listings were declined due to unsupported file format. Had no idea what files may cause this until I contacted support. Response was kinda shocking, I had .0 file format. I searched and there was nothing in the files.

It happened that my folders had _2.0 suffix reffering to version. So it causes algos to decline my listings, as the last two signs were .0 . So, it was not executive or installer file.

So, conclusion is, to not use .0 in naming convention at all.

Hello - thanks for your reply. We’re looking into this issue with folder names causing false positives when publishers are using . in naming conventions. I’m hoping we can change the rules to ignore folder/path names when checking for extensions. But for now, yes, avoiding . in names should solve the issue.

Abby, It´s good to see a known face from Sketchfab because the transition to FAB has been a massive pain to some of us due to some serious precariousness inherent to the new website, including but not limited to it´s infringement automated detection system… I have spent several days (and headaches) reporting this issue trying to reach out an effective solution to the false positives arising from it but the only thing i have gotten is to duplicate my “sanction” count because the system keeps detecting inexistent “unsupported file types”, i have already double/triple-checked for any “stowaway” file, or naming contraindication, or something causing my listings to get rejected but i have found nothing out of place so i´m 100% sure it´s a system bug.

I already received a mail telling me they will investigate the issue and contact me for updates soon so i hope to get good news soon.

RAR files as addicional files that include textures or so arent allowed?

ZIP archives only

I’ll see if I can learn more - for what it’s worth, when I look at my models on Sketchfab, I don’t see the archive format that I uploaded them in, I only see the 3D files contained within the archive format. Thus, I can’t tell whether I uploaded something as ZIP, 7z, or RAR, for example.

I’ll see what we can do to provide more clarity on this.

Hello, can you please share the link to the Sketchfab model you migrated and/or the Fab listing you’re trying to publish now?

By the way, we have fixed the issue of looking at folder names, and a few other situations causing false positives like file_1.0.fbx.

So in sketchfab i always uploaded a rar file with all textures like AO o some color varians and all got transfered with no errors as aditional files, are you telling me that i have to reupload all 400 files in zip format?

We’re working on solutions to this scenario, but generally our plan is that you would not have to do this.

Hi,

Could you confirm if .PSD is supported?

I had an issue (aka “sanction” ) with one of my products that said it “contains a file type that is unsupported”.
After some guessing and thinking blindly I removed some .PSD sources that I have included with my textures, and looks like the automated review passed this time.

Btw, on the documentation provided also say that the list “is not exhaustive”, would be good to have an exhaustive full list, or better automated reports that identify the problematic items.

Yes, .PSD is allowed. I’m not sure what would have caused the error for you on your earlier attempts, but we did make some fixes as described above. If you contact support with the details/files (or even just post a screenshot of the original file structure here), I can try to help.

The full allow lists and block lists contain hundreds of entries. We’d prefer not to publish it and maintain it publicly, but we’ll add to it when we get reports of unsupported formats that we should support.

We definitely want to improve the email reports to include more specific information, and it’s on the longer-term roadmap.

Hello, James. Sorry for writing to you about this here, but could you please answer my question in this forum thread (or ask a staff member at the appropriate level to answer)?

I finally made my models back to the store by re-compressing and re-uploading them so there are no more flagged files links i could share because now they’re all live (at least by now ).

I will post any update. Thanks!

Thank you, I finally made my models back to the store by re-compressing to .zip and re-uploading them, i have no idea what the problem was because I used the very same files, but it may have something to do with the migration process because I used to upload everything at Sketchfab on .7z compression format, the weird thing is the models were correctly exported at firts migration wave and detected as unsupported file later.

Hey guys,

I’ve migrated half of my library from Sketchfab and I also seem to have problems with some additional files that are being flagged and I think I know which one are causing the issue.

My issue is, however, that I’m not able to make changes to the listing of this character asset pack, everything is grayed out. I can’t further delete the listing because I get error “Cannot delete instance of Listing with id xxxx”.

Is there something I’ve missed out or should I just ignore this and manually upload this character pack on Fab?

Thanks for your help in advance and happy creating :slightly_smiling_face:

That’s an odd one. Please contact https://support.fab.com/s/?ProductOrigin=FabSupport - they should be able to assist much better than I.
