Unreal freezes on 96%

The editor seems to freeze if I create a blank blueprint project using starter content on unreal 4.7.2. It doesn’t crash it just sits at 4.7.2 using all of my CPU for ever until I kill it. I am using Osx 10.10.2.
edit:
Forgot to add that I can create a blank project without start content just fine but if I try to migrate the content from another project to the blank one it will crash.
Here are my Specs:
MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013)
2.4 GHz Intel Core i5
16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Startup Disk 02
Intel Iris 1536 MB

Hi blakdragan7,

Are you saving your projects to an external drive? If so, try it on the built-in harddrive, then try creating a project and saving it to the external drive again. I tried to reproduce this, and at first I was running into the same problem; it would freeze at 96%. I tried saving to the laptop HD, and it didn’t freeze. I then tried on the external drive, and the problem disappeared. I’m going to enter a bug report for this, but I want to check with you first to see if this is the same problem. If you can get back to me with your system specs and let me know if this is happening when you try to create a project on an external drive, I’d really appreciate it. Thanks!

I’m afraid I’m using the built in drive. I don’t have an external drive to test with or I would be happy to do so. I’m not entirely sure which specs to include as I’ve never submitted a bug report before. If you don’t mind would you please let me know exactly what to post here and then I would be happy to do so.

For the Mac specs, go to the Apple menu and select About This Mac. Copy everything you see there except for the Serial Number, and paste it here.

Ok I put my specs on there but when I used terminal it printed a bunch of stuff that stopped doing anything. Should I copy and past what it had in here because it is a lot of stuff

Thanks. So the terminal commands didn’t open the editor for you?

No it Does there is just a lot of stuff on the terminal. and It would be a lot to paste

Okay, please drop it in a .txt file, which you can attach here. Thanks!

Thanks! And how long did it stay at 96% with this output, approximately?

I’m not sure I probably only gave it like 10 minutes or something

So the problem randomly went away and hasn’t come back. I haven’t been doing anything different that I am aware of but at least it works now

Glad to hear it! I haven’t been able to reproduce it again once it went away, but just in case it does, please let us know and we’ll keep looking into it. Thanks!

I’m having a similar issue.
Using the internal hard drive.
Tried creating a blueprint or c++ project. Same problem with both
Using 4.7.3 downloaded

From my mac about box
10.10.2 (14C109)
MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Mid 2014)
3 GHz Intel Core i7
16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Intel Iris 1536 MB

Left it at 96% for 20 minutes both times.

You have pretty close to the same laptop I have. I’m not sure what exactly made it go away for me but here are the steps I took. Maybe it will help you. First I completely removed unreal (i.e. the editor and the launcher) I re-downloaded them and reinstalled. Then I rebooted my computer and deleted every version of mono that I had on my computer. It randomly went away sometime after I did that. I hope that helps.

Hi mikedg,

Please try opening the editor from the terminal so we can see what it is actually doing. To do this, open Terminal app and type:

cd /Users/Shared/UnrealEngine/4.7/Engine/Binaries/Mac/UE4Editor.app/Contents/MacOS/

./UE4Editor "[uproject path]"

Paste the results into a text document and attach it with your reply. Also try deleting the DerivedDataCache folder from the project folder, if you have one.

Hi I am having the same exact issue with UE4 4.7.3. Just bought a brand new Macbook Pro Retina 13-inch Mid 2014 2.6Ghz Core i5 8GB intel Iris, OS X 10.10.2… Installed UE4 for the first time. I created a blank blueprint project following Level Designing Tutorial and the Editor hangs at 96%. I killed it. Attempted to reopen the empty project and it hangs at 95% now.

I notice I had a pop up that warned to be running a Quad Core… I check boxed it to not warn me again but it pops up anyway showing its checkboxed. Is this a BUG?

My god it drained my full battery down to 2hrs with left 40% battery left just trying to add a light mass, floor, player and directional light after the editor loaded up. Whenever I select an object like the box the outline flickers. The system seems slow too. Navigating the scene seems to be very extra sensitive using the trackpad as viewport jumps a lot with WASD keys. Is there an ideal settings for Macs with the right click? I also own a space navigation 3D Mouse.

I’m seriously thinking about going back to Unity.

Battery down to 9%. I restarted to make sure something wasn’t odd going on but my battery totally dumped. All I did was run the basic level design tutorial and my new machine didn’t last 3hrs from a full charge with UE4. Anyone else notice Macbook Pro Retina issues with Ureal 4.7.3?

Hi Tomo,

Did the freeze on a starting a new project only happen when you had Starter Content enabled? Did it only happen the one time, or does it happen every time?

For the other issues you listed, please open new posts so we can address them there. Thanks!

Hi Ben
Starter Content was enabled. The Quad core warning pop up went away finally but I haven’t tested creating multiple blank projects yet. The editor seems stressed somewhat when trying to follow the 1st tutorial in the docs.
