Unreal Engine: Now Available to Everyone for Free

great, that basically means any now stays unresolved. No leverage anymore…
Like I go: in UE4.7, the ‘watch value’ in the level blueprint for variables does not work anymore. It worked in UE4.6 just fine in the same project.
Epic: What do you want? It is for free…

Monumental!

Deeply moved by decision. I genuinely choked up watching 's announcement in the video. With the dev grants, learning tools, twitch and , I feel so genuinely supported by Epic in journey, which is everything, as a solo developer in the midst of it all.

Thank you, each of you making possible, so very much.

I’m a newly registered user, what can I say… thanks Epic! news made my day, actually my month
Now, I hate to be the super noob of the situation but… can I already install the thing? Because I’ve downloaded and installed the launcher, but in the Unreal Engine tab there’s just a “No Engine Installed” button and I can’t seem to get the option to download T_T

There’s a “Add Version” with a plus icon next to “Engine Versions” there you can add the latest UE4 version (4.7.1) and then download it right away.

You guys just changed the game.

is an news!

I get it free from now on+last months payment refunded+$30 in credit on the Marketplace???..Boy am I gonna be ****** when I wake up ::

I am suprised.

Wow, I almost dropped my coffee twice as I read and reread the announcement again and again…
For me is the most epic event in game development ever and everything will change from now on.

Although I will probably never ship a game (just tinkering around), I’m proud to have been a paying subscriber for almost a year and wouldn’t hesitate to do so again. I wish you the very best and hope you will succeed. (Are there T-Shirts “Have been using UE4 as it wasn’t free”?)

Thank you so much EPIC, is unbelievable and still completely unreal, love you guys

And thanks to great community too, you really rock

I also wish you guys didn’t make engine free for the following reasons:

The $19/m was a barrier to keep kids from making sht games and giving unreal a “bad name”, look at how down hill unity has gone with all the little 12yr old’s making sht quality games. Now when somebody says there game is made on unity automatically thinks its gonna be a bad quality game and they become a joke! I personally had absolutely no problem with paying the $19/m and would happily start paying again if it mean’t keeping all the little kids out!

Look, i have no problem with indie devs and i especially don’t have a problem with young ones either, its just the little kids on there laptops that want to make a bad clone of slender or five nights and then brag that it was made on unreal and makes unreal look like PG rated movie. Look how professional cry-engine looks because nobody can afford there license’s (before there subscription based service). I could ramble for hours on the many reasons why i dislike that engine has suddenly became free with no regard to the consequences.

Now i’m going to just look like a troll/hater because people just want free stuff and are going to argue my comment to the ground. RIP my opinion.

May i request one thing for the future, since the engine is free and a load of kids are going to be complaining that the engine is too complicated. PLEASE DON’T water the engine down and make a “Water Button” etc. (pun unintended)

$19 isn’t/wasn’t a barrier. If you can’t afford that, you’ve got other issues to deal with before making a game…I think was a great move on Epic’s part.

I feel an “Inception Headache” coming on…

is amazing. It was already fantastic value for money for those serious about building their own games but I love the fact that you’re giving ordinary people like me the to have a look at your world-class engine and tinker about with it completely free of charge. I have no serious plans in game development but I’m definitely going to try it out and see how far I get.

When I was first playing around unreal1 editor back in 1998, I wouldn’t believe it f somebody told me by then, after 17 years, we’d get amazing engine for free.
is cliche but news is EPIC!!!

is awsome! It look like it’ll make my job a bit easier when Distributing Unreal-chan for free.

Epic Games always epic, didnt see coming.

No words for just wow…
