I cant speak for everyone, but “what is enough” depends on “the needs” in correlation to price and available money, at least for me. (and if it fits the game, i wont buy stuff that doesnt fit but still looks “cool”.)
I could have bought a pack of 4 landscapes for 50$, or the “Affordable Landscapes” pack for 100$, but i got the 100$ one because it was a better deal.
In this case the deciding factors were:
- I got a bunch of grass for free (its included in the pack)
- A dozen?+ Landscapes (allthough some of them are very specific, like the Moon for example)
- Quality (for what i needed, obviously performance still matters)
- Acceptable performance to make an actual game with these Landscapes
Besides the smaller pack, the other alternative was the “Redwood Forest” from MAWI United GmbH, but i decided against it for the following reasons:
- It lacked proper Performance descriptions (Its obvious that this needs more than the average GPU, but the only thing i found after searching was a short youtube-video made with a 1080 lacking more relevant information)
That said, i still have this on my “Wishlist”.
I noticed this multiple times, many Assets in the Store have incomplete Descriptions, not working videos or broken links.
I can not afford to throw around 150$ without knowing if i actually can use it for my needs, even if it is an awesome asset. (which said Forest definitely is.)
I dont know how others decide, but for me there is not a single factor that makes a decision, but a single factor can make me avoid an asset - regardless of its quality.
And then i always fear that some of the unknown Creators might not have gotten everything legally, just like people are uploading stolen stuff onto Steam on a daily basis, which probably explains the scepticism against new creators.
I personally prefer the high quality stuff we have here, instead of a few thousand assets that you cant really put into any serious game, where you also dont know “where they are from”.
We also have a ton of free assets from Epic games, allthough most of them are too specific for most people, but still, they can be harvested for stuff to use in your games.
On the other hand, its obvious that you shouldnt buy a 100$ landscape pack for a free game on itch.io.
I think that there isnt much on the UE4-Marketplace that has an unreasonable price.

But more importantly:
- We do not have a Wishlist…
There is a bunch of Assets i want to get for the future, but i cant track these at all.
Every single time i am searching for something, i have to deal with the Marketplace and search for a specific asset that i might have seen a year ago, without knowing its name.
EPIC, Wishlist, please :3
