Unreal Engine 5.7 git source build does not seem to build from Rocky Linux/RHEL 8 anymore

Steps to Reproduce

When running the Setup.sh / GenerateProjectFiles.sh flow, artifacts appear to be pulled which do not compile under Rocky/RHEL 8 due to incompatible glibc. This primarily appears to affect the Engine/Binaries/DotNET/ directory. After running these scripts, I can transplant this directory from an older copy and build the engine with no issue.

Documentation found at https://dev.epicgames.com/documentation/unreal-engine/hardware-and-software-specifications-for-unreal-engine?application_version=5.7 currently lists rocky 8 as the minimum spec. If this is no longer the case, 5.7 does now require newer glibc (ie, upgrading to RHEL9 ecosystem), I would request that documentation be updated, as both our studio and our downstream partners will be looking to official guidance from Epic as a prerequisite to even beginning talks about upgrades.

Hi Jack,

can you confirm whether you integrated only the deltas from the CL mentioned in our other thread or the file in its entirety? Integrating the file in its entirety would not be compatible with an older version of UE as it would contain updates to other binaries.

Best regards.

Thanks for confirming. You’ll definitely want to merge this correctly to ensure only the updated UTS binary is updated as a result.

Best regards.

In my case I only tested on our branch and on the CL linked with trace server fixes, I have not attempted any backport/merge yet

I don’t know that merging is really quite the issue here, the Setup/Generate cycle seems to be trying to pull rocky9-reliant elements regardless of the branch. The actual build didn’t need those items, as I was able to roll back the previously mentioned folders and build successfully

Hi Jack,

The issue would have required a manual merge of the entries in the GitDependecies xml file pertaining solely to the UTS binary. An auto merge of the CL would indeed pull in additional undesirable dependencies. Glad that you have a working build with manual reversion of the additional files pulled in.

Best regards/
