Unreal Engine 5.6 not installing

Summary

I have downloaded Epic Games Launcher for Unreal Engine 5.6 for my MacBook Pro. The download is stuck at initialization for around 3 days and will not progress at all. I have enough space for Unreal on my MacBook, so I am unsure of how to get Unreal Engine to properly download, Can someone help?

Hey @Jonny_Sinatra! Welcome to the forums!

The first thing that comes to mind is a possibility of corrupted cache preventing downloading.

Open Finder and type into the bar: ~/Library/Caches/com.epicgames.EpicGamesLauncher
then delete the webcache folder.

Honestly I’d even uninstall the launcher and reinstall it before attempting to download 5.6 again.

Hope that helps!

Hey, it still is not working for some reason…

Okay then, a few more things to try:

Cancel the download, FULLY delete anything that has downloaded in the Unreal Engine 5.6 installation folder, then download without starter content. Apparently the starter content with this release is being finnicky.

Make sure you have minimum 2.5x the space necessary for the installation, for Pagefile usage (if mac does pagefile usage?) and unpacking.

even after deleting everything and reinstalling the download is stuck at 82%, I guess it doesn’t like the MacBook :grimacing:

No, that’s actually good! I mean it’s not ideal, of course, but the original problem isn’t there anymore!

82% is where the “Progress bar” hangs on any system, it’s because 82% is where it has to install a few (very) large files and it goes off of [files installed/total files] instead of [data installed/total data], so the progress bar is correct it just isn’t helpful in estimating time remaining. I’ve run into a ton of people with that issue and what I’ve told them is simply to wait, it WILL catch up as long as you didn’t do something weird during installation.

We made it to 83% I’m still hopeful…

@Jonny_Sinatra Did you make it to 100%? If we can get confirmation I’d bet it would give a lot of Mac users hope!
