Hello, I recently installed the newest version of Unreal engine 5.4.4, previous versions had worked just fine and never gave this error. Below is the exact error log it gives when it crashes.
Welcome to the Unreal Engine Forum! Is this happening with one specific project or multiple? Also, what system specs are you running with? I’ll be happy to take a look! Thanks.
Hello, this is happening with unreal engine in general before opening any project and sometimes in a project. its whenever I click a function that opens the file explorer. import button, browse, save as, anything that opens the file explorer will result in this crash.
My current specs are
Ryzen 9 5900x
Nvidia RTX 3080
16 GB DDR4 ram
2, 500gb SSD 1 is my boot drive
1, 1tb HDD
I’ve recently upgraded my cpu and gpu about a week ago and the problem continued so it wasn’t something to do with them. I hope you can figure out something from all this, I appreciate any help i can get as I need Unreal Engine for my uni work.
Is the issue continuing to happen? If so a couple of things I’d test: Try running it on DirectX 11 instead of 12 and see if it happens. I’d also remove the Saved and Intermediate folders in your project folder and try running again after that. Let me know your findings! Thanks!
The issue is still happening, and im unsure how to change to directX 11 in general. Even if I did change to directX 11 in a project this is a problem that persists outside of a project before I’ve even opened one. So I don’t see this being a problem with any project specifically but with unreal engine in general. If you have any other solutions that I can try that aren’t related to a project I’d like to know, I’m willing to try anything. Thank you for your help so far.
Did this issue start as soon as you installed 5.4 or were there any changes to your rig or updates when this first started? (Also, do other UE versions have this crash as well?)
Yes this started when I first installed UE 5.4 before I had made any changes to my hardware. I was previously using 5.1 for my projects and it worked fine without issue, going back into 5.1 after I started having the problem and it still works completely fine. Its only 5.4 where the issue is present. If you’d like any additional information feel free to ask.
I’ve read through this forum post among others and couldn’t find anything of help, I attempted to change the port unreal was using but didn’t have any success with it, I might’ve done it incorrectly but I followed the steps provided in a forum linked in the one you sent.
