Hello, I am developing a game in Unreal Engine 5.3.2, and I am encountering a persistent lighting issue. When my character is at a distance, certain lights appear to be culling or disappearing, and they only become visible upon close approach. What is the fundamental reason for this behavior, and how can I resolve it?
Hello there @Penguenx4!
Indeed, that looks like UE culling the rendered light following it’s default radius. You can adjust this project wise, or by light basis:
To change the whole scene, you can go to Edit > Project Settings, locate the Rendering section, and navigate to Culling. From there, you can adjust “Min Screen Radius for Lights” to a lower value (default is 0.03, test with 0.005 or below). Once applied, this will result in an increase for culling distance.
On the other hand, you can change the affected light only, by accessing its Details panel, and looking for the Performance section. There, you can tweak the values for “Max Draw Distance” and “Max Distance Fade Range”. The first one allows you to establish a set distance in the world before culling said light. And the second parameter let’s you control the transition or fade to black, so the light doesnt’ just dissapear instantly.

You can also check a practical example of the draw distance fix in the video guide below:
