Hi
I’ve just started using Unreal Engine 4, but it’s running extremely slow on my iMac.
My specs are:
Processor: 2.9 GHz Intel Core i5
Memory: 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 512 MB
Do you know what the problem could be? At the moment it is completely unusable due to the slowness. I have also tried changing the scalability settings to low, but that hasn’t really made a difference.
Thanks for your help!
Sophie
Hi sophiej,
Your graphics card is sitting at just below the minimum recommended specs to use UE4 as illustrated in the following link:
GeForce GTX 470 vs GT 650M
However, there are some adjustments you can make that should help: In addition to changing the scalability settings to low as you have mentioned, you can also set the Material Quality Level to low, Preview Rendering Level to “Shader Model 4” and, under Viewporit options, unselect “Realtime.”
Hi
Thanks for your help! I reinstalled Unreal last night and that sorted the problem. It is a bit slow probably due to the graphics card but it’s definitely usable now and the settings you mentioned helped a lot too
Thanks
Sophie
