Unreal Engine 4.19 Preview

Thanks for letting us know , even a rough timeline makes it easier for us to plan.

I found that the animation override node no longer seem to work properly with the current 4.19 build. When I apply it to an asset it will apply the first animation, and then it just sits there stuck with that animation. Any further uses of the animation override node fails to update or change the animation being used, the looping state, or anything else.

No one will fix it if you only post about it on the forums.

With 4.19 we’ve started seeing crashes when our project loads. It’s a tripped assertion in FName because the name is too long. In the debugger, the name is like Temp_object_Variable123456789101112131415161718192021222324252627282930313233343536373839404142434445464748495051525354555657585960616263646566676869707172737475767778798081828384858687888990919293949…(plus 900ish more characters).

The problem is that FNetNameMapping::GetUniqueName is appending the counter to the string each time it is called. So if you call it multiple times you get this:

GetUniqueName(“Foo”) → “Foo”
GetUniqueName(“Foo”) → “Foo1”
GetUniqueName(“Foo”) → “Foo12” (instead of “Foo2”)
GetUniqueName(“Foo”) → “Foo123” (instead of “Foo3”)

For many cases it just means you wind up with long names, but too many calls with the same input and the names become too long and other parts of the engine complain. I filed a bug on issues.unrealengine.com, but mentioning it here in case others run into the same problem.

In at least 4.19 Preview 4 and preview 5, for whatever reason whenever I try to a Package for windows 64 bit a c++ project I get a link error related to ARSystem (or Build target is Game, and win64 as platform)
It will work if I target win32, or if it’s a blueprint only project then i can package for win64
Doesn’t happen with 4.18.3.

Vive Motion Controllers stuck to floor in 4.19 Preview 5 [TABLE]

I’m having an issue using the HTC Vive motion controllers in 4.19 where they will make a fist and sometimes even shoot a short blue beam but will not motion track or teleport around the navmesh.

		I'm running the engine on a Lenovo P70 3.0GHz Xeon 64 GB RAM with a Nvidia Quadro M5000M Card. I used datasmith to import my geometry from 3DS Max.

		I recreated the problem by cloning the project into the same engine version and version 4.18.3. When I start in the motion controller template in any engine version the controllers track and teleport perfectly. As soon as I import my geometry, run the VR preview a couple times and adjust my navigation volumes, the controllers stop tracking and stick to the floor. Any advice would be appreciated. I'm using only the default blueprints and templates.

		I should also mention that I tried setting up the floor collision a few different ways to see if that was the problem: I usually use "use complex as simple" collision on my floors but I also tried a simple box and neither made a difference. I also tried ignoring dynamic objects.

So it turned out that this was only an issue with my particular project, which I’ve seemingly solved by just deleting my custom DefaultGameUserSettings.ini . I’m assuming there was a change to the format/parameters of this file between 4.18 and 4.19 which rendered my old version invalid.

Does any one have a problem with loading a 4.18.3 projects on 4.19p5?
Specifically, widgets:
After transitioning code to 4.19, we’ve came across a bug that crashes the editor when loading widgets… These are regular widgets (UI elements and HUDs).

I’m using RichTextBlock from Unreal Engine and after last update from 4.19p4 to 4.19p5 I can’t use SetText function on it(in blueprints). It’s pretty weird because I was looking on the source code and there were not any changes.

I’ve been struggling for months with the structure in a structure error that was potentially resolved with 4.19.

Project files that were already broken or susceptible of breaking due to the structure error can be imported and saved in 4.19. BUT, the blueprints won’t finish compiling. I get a message saying the compile was successful with no errors, but the blueprint compile icon still appears to need compiled ( no green check ).

When trying to launch the game, i’ll get a message saying “unresolved compiler errors” in the blueprint that just compiled successfully (except the icon). Game will play no issues other than that.

Edit: This is happening in preview 4 and 5 - I haven’t tested it in earlier preview versions.

Any news I missed on the Windows Mixed Reality headset support with it’s motion controllers?

It suppose to work through Steam VR, afaik.

We’ve had a problem loading projects in 4.19p5 and it manifest as an FName error when loading UMG BPs. Not sure if you’re experiencing the exact same problem, but if you have the error stack trace I could tell you if it looks to be the same problem we’ve had.

We filed a bug and it got entered as Unreal Engine Issues and Bug Tracker (UE-55496). The bug says it affects 4.20 without mentioning that it affects 4.19; I’m sure hoping that they fix it in 4.19 though, otherwise we won’t be able to use 4.19 at all (we also submitted a pull request as the fix is pretty trivial).

If the widgets are affected of small quantity (like 5 or less), then can you just recreate the widget in 4.19 and see if the crash goes away?
