I’m trying to run Unreal Editor 5.5.4 on a Macbook Pro (M1 Pro) running macOS 15.4, but I get a dialog claiming “Xcode not found”. Xcode 16.3 is installed and was installed through App Store (and works fine for iOS/macOS development). The license agreement has been confirmed both in Xcode and in my developer account. The command line tools are installed, and compiling using the CLI works. Why can’t Unreal Editor find Xcode?
I have the same issues on my M4 pro.
the result of xcode-select -p
is /Library/Developer/CommandLineTools
I tried it with UE 5.4.4 but same issue, then I found a solution.
Open XCode, go to Xcode → Settings → Locations and select Command Line Tools version even tho it is already selected and has only one option. It asked be for touch-id and after Unreal worked.
This is working for UE 5.4. I haven’t testet it with 5.5 yet.
I fixed this by opening Xcode prior to running the engine. (used 5.5.4) I opened Xcode, had it running in the background on it’s settings screen, then just said “launch engine” and suddenly the error went away. No idea why but…Worked.
As well, I’m on:
- Macbook Pro 2019
- macOS Sequoia 15.4.1
