Unreal 5 Sculpting Underwater Portion of Island

Fairly new to Unreal 5, though I have been working on this project for a little bit over a month.

As you can see below, I have just recently completed an island on top of an ocean. While I love how it looks now, it looks really awkward just ‘floating’ above the water. A few questions I have:

  1. How do I delete large portions of the Landscape square without leaving holes in the ocean (not sure if that is a visual bug when I delete it or not).

  2. With the island pretty much complete already, how do I naturally connect it downwards towards the ocean floor (I haven’t found a lot of guides on this specifically, so I have been pretty lost on how to go about this).

  3. I plain to make multiple islands. In the future, how should I go about making them to avoid having to go back and do what I am doing now?

Any ideas or even tutorials that could be linked would help a lot, as I haven’t had much luck looking up either. Thank you for any help.

Hey there @StarmanGalaxy! Welcome to the community! So you’ve got a number of ways to influence the ocean falloff, but I highly recommend sculpting it to a new layer. You can go to your landscape, sculpt, and create a new edit layer.

This new layer will be additive to the water layers changes so you can do anything you want there.

  1. Deleting sides that the island edges border breaks the ocean system, so you need to at least maintain it to the water’s bounds.

  2. You would adjust the curve settings, water heightmap settings, and manually sculpt on a new nondestructive layer where necessary.

3: Depending on the distance between your islands, if the player can go under water, and how fancy you want to go. My general word of advice is if the player needs underwater landscape and you’re going to populate it, you may have to look into large world coordinates and rebasing world position etc depending on your scale between the islands. If not, you can just have different landscape pieces .
