Unreal 5.1, MacOS - Lighting too bright and shadows too dark

I’m using MacOS and Unreal 5.1.

I’m taking an Unreal course and I noticed that in my projects the lighting is too bright and the shadows are too dark very different from what I see in the course where the teacher is using Unreal 5.

I tested downloading Unreal 5 and the lighting and shadows look away better, but I can’t open the 5.1 projects in Unreal 5.

I couldn’t find a solution online, is there a way to fix it or is it a bug in Unreal 5.1?

Here are some screenshots for comparison:

Is the teacher using a Mac, tough…

I think ( just from what I’ve seen ), that’s there’s a problem with global illumination at the moment on mac. That’s why the shadows are pitch black.

The only solution I’ve seen so far, is to switch from Lumen to ‘screen space’ GI in the project settings. It’s not the final answer, but it will do the trick until things get fixed.

You could also try reducing fog density.

Do I have to do anything else after changing GI to Screen Space? Nothing happened here

No, that’s it. So it sounds like something else…

Might be a bug in Unreal 5.1? Because lighting and shadows looks good in Unreal 5.0.

I’ll continue with this 5.1 project until I finish this session of the course but in the next session I’ll use unreal 5.0 until this problem is figured out.
