Unreal 5.1 keeps crashing with D3D/GPU error

hey there,
recently updated from Unreal 5.0EA to Unreal 5.1 and I keep getting D3D/GPU errors that result in crashes.

Running an rtx 2080Ti on Windows 10, these are the steps I already tried:

  1. Updating windows
  2. Updating Nvidia Driver
  3. Switched from gameready to studio driver and back
  4. Used DDU for clean install
  5. Installed Studio Driver without Geforce experience.
  6. Added the TDR delay to the registry and set it to 60
  7. Changed power settings in NvidiaControl panel for maximum performance.
  8. Changed max fps for Unreal Engine in NvidiaControl panel for 30fps.
  9. Checked with GPU-Z to see if the card is overclocked (it wasn´t).
  10. Checked Vram usage (wasn´t full).

The only thing that initially seemed to have an effect was number 8, but it quickly became a problem again when i kept working.

What I haven´t tried yet is reverting to DirectX11, because we definitely need Nanite.

I haven´t found an excluding factor what triggers the crash and what doesn´t, can be simple scenes, can be complex scenes.
It seems like it is more likely to happen if there are any translucent materials involved.
It also seems to happen more often, when starting to move the camera in the editor view, right after startup.

Any ideas? Is this a known issue or have others find a solution I haven´t?

Actually Step 6. made it worse. Now the editor just freezes for 60 seconds before it gives me the crash…

Did you find a solution for this error? am stuck with it and almost tried everything with no luck

Welcome back to the Unreal Engine forums! Which specific error are you getting? I’d be happy to look into it.

Its this crash I guess…

I’m fairly familiar with that specific error. It’s not uncommon to see happen in PC games on Windows. I haven’t dealt with it in Unreal Engine before. But, I’m sure it’s the same concept. You mentioned that you updated to 5.1 and are experiencing this issue. Are you having the issue in other versions or anywhere outside of UE?

I found 5.2 or 5.0 had less issues with that, and for me on one occasion I reinstalled the drivers again at the end and rebooted.
possibly install a previous driver?
