Unreal 4 Game on Steam doesn't work with Win11

Hi,
we have worked on a game called Rugon, which we had to release unfinished since we couldn’t fund the development anymore. Currently its on Steam. Even tho there are barely players, there is a small community hosting tournaments each month.
Since upgrading to Windows11 some players aren’t able to play the game anymore.
Has anybody run into the same problem or knows a solution?

Hey there @ProbyTheProbe! There were some threads mentioning Windows 11 breaking some drivers, but usually after the users updated their video drivers it sorts itself out.

Thanks for the advice @SupportiveEntity , unfortunatly that doesn’t seem to fix the issue.

The game can be opened. But after some time, the game just closes.
It doesn’t crash. There is also nothing suspicious in the logs.

The game just closes? Did you try to produce a debug build and run the launch argument -log and see if anything even slightly anomalous comes up? Windows 11 had introduced a number of hiccups, but yours is quite a bit different. What version of UE4 are you using specifically? I’m going to see if I can replicate the issue with basic builds from 4.27 on Win11 myself, but it does sound like the issue is possibly environmental. Is it a large sample of Win11 or just a small subset?

I @SupportiveEntity haven’t tried to run a debug build yet, but i will do in the next couple of days.

The project runs on 4.17.

Since the project doesn’t have many players, I don’t have much data. But so far the problem occurred everytime a player was using Win11.

Awesome, let me know how it goes. If you can find any reasons for the outright quit we might be able to point at the issue a bit better.

In the meantime, I’d also try forcing the game in windowed mode for the testing as well. There is a known issues with Win11 and older (DX 10) builds that would cause DX Device disconnection errors, though they aren’t usually without a crash notify.

I have now tried to fix all of this issue. But to no success.

So right now I discovered that the game always closes after around 1 min after starting it up. But it doesn’t matter what parts of the game I loaded. I also removed all startup functions and only loaded an empty level. But the error still occurs.

Then I stumbled upon this post UE4 constantly crashing when trying to play game
So i tried to do this aswell but still no success. The error still stays the same.
Whenever I open the game on windows 11 the game closes itself after 60 seconds. But there is no crash and also in the logs there is no error to be found.

As you can see in this log I get the same errors as in the post I linked. But even after following the instructions there, the errors in the log still stay there. They also occur on windows 10. So I am not entirely sure if they are related to the problem.

Also I tried to package the project for shipping, development and debugging. But the error still remains the same, no matter what I do.

Last year happened a lot which is why I wasn’t able to fix this issue. But I would really love to enable the players and myself to play this game again and also to run some tests, which are needed for a followup project.

I would really appreciate help in fixing this error.
