Word of advice, its been like 3 years this post is here with virtually zero progress. If I were you I would have either learnt game development and programming myself during these 3 years or would have collected some funds to pay off a legit programmer to do it for you. Zero funding games are quite rare and usually do not make to any considerable release.
P.S. You don’t need a super PC to run UE4 given current state of the project
You have summarized well the situation, however there are still some great talents on this forum but they usually not finish what they started in my case…
Joining a UE4 Game Jam with your team or join another team seemed to be a good solution for a start.
Indie Game Teams have been formed with this kind of contest, however it also requires the motivation to create a little game that will not pay much if not the first prize of the Game Jam competition, despite of everything it must be an enriching experience. Something to try in the future…
I made a lot of mistakes because I discovered the world of 3D video game design and team management, market studies, creation of websites and network functions, etc …
I have learned a lot and have a great experience in many practices related to the field of video game creation as:
The choice and use of many 3D software (choice of licenses, etc …) with the creation of workflow, now I know how to create clothes on any human model, play with APEX which was not easy before.
I also learned how to use Blender for 3D animation and set up a perfect workflow that does not require retarget and other complications, in addition to adding animation on the fly.
Compose epic music that require a really Powerfull PC
And so much more, it was too much… my bad too…
And indeed it moved forward and backwards because of undisciplined members, we even had a very good result at a certain time and then it all collapses because of one or two unhappy guys -.-
Then I got fed up by trying to manage Gremlins so i let them do their thing in their corners, hoping no more…
Then I start to learn and follow tutorials and create the beginning of the game alone in 2 months only with a rotting PC that have 7 years old,
then later the hard drive crash…
After redemption of hard disk re installation windows, UE4, etc … Resume since my backup but I had not everything. But hey !? I keep going ! XD
Later it was the final bouquet with the graphics card AMD that grilled and I found myself using an even older PC that does not have a 3D graphics card and slow exceptional thanks to its 2GB of RAM … So Use UE4 in these conditions it is simply excluded, already that waiting times with the previous PC was very long …
In short after sweating loudly to save and pay me a real fast and powerful PC to save time, I am finally ready to complete the game with or without a team.
But already the troubles begin, my previous work is not compatible with the last version of UE4 …
So I’m going to start everything from the beginning I think …
I bought the Two Handed Sword Animset Pro which will help partly to accelerate the project because there are globally 400 animations to realize.
So if I can find a **developer partner BP / C ++ we can accelerate the release of the first playable demo game **in just a few months and move on to the next steps …
Having funds helps enormously, but for now I have nothing to show that is worth big money.
In all honesty you would be best learning programming yourself or perhaps start another project as this one is not getting the interest you are hoping for. Otherwise You will most likely still be here in 5 maybe ten years lol, recruiting for people that will most likely never come.
There is definitely no decent Royalty or Unpaid willing programmers that will do it justice. You would need to source some funding and offer some paid tasks to try move forward.
but like said above best to learn the programming yourself if you really want to stick with that game / design…
I feel ya man, but like I said the only thing that’d attract talent (and possibly funders) immedietly is if you could show some actual gameplay , no matter how ■■■■■■ the graphics maybe , a playable prototype is 100x more appealing than a mere showcase of assets.
And so to get this game rolling you need to grab a programmer. The funds you’re spending on buying art, music and animations might be better spent on coding lessons or just hiring a well reputed programmer. Its your game so your descisions ofcourse. but rule of thumb is Gameplay >>> Art .
The Project itself is super interesting and very innovative, even some functionalities are really unique !
I wish i can find a real passionate dev that beleive in the project same as i do.
Devs who are looking for paid only, im not interested in them.
And you are right i must learn by my self how to dev BP, etc… Its what i am doing now.
Here some great tutorial series ! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GDnU_6tTPKc
Wait 3 years more the game will be ready hehe
I hate to say this, but it just may be that the Game Concept does not seem that interesting in its current presentation. This is the trouble I’m experiencing with building a team for my Dream Game: Dragon’$ Gold and I’m skilled with blueprints. It feels as if no-one is interested in First Person Action Dungeon Crawl Hybrid game:(. I notice that other game genre such as Warfare FPS, Horror, and Survival Games get more attention. Heck mention Zombies and you may get 10 replies today’s end.
Thus, I’m going back to the drawing board to migrate a majority of the concepts from my dream game into Warfare FPS, Horror, Survival Game with Zombies. LOL. I’m pretty much rolling it all into a storyline similar to CRYSIS (). In short, I refuse to let my dream game die, so it must morph into something else to survive and build a team.
Totally Agreed ! This is the plan ! GamePlay to show might still a long road to go but im on it !
Also the good news is after having followed a few basic tutorials, I found my marks again and I corrected the errors of my old project due to UE4 Version Updates and everything works perfectly !
I still need to find an integrator Blender/UE4 to help me to combine and modify Animset Animations + Mixamo Animations + My blender file with the UE4 Mannequin that includes IK for easy animation.
I’m not sure it’s really a problem of concept, I even propose a zombie game, **United Zombies (video in the last post) **and it did not work for lack of motivation and early abandonment …
I think the developers are suspicious of projects that have a chance of not being successful, so I imagine that they join almost finished projects or projects with a salary …
I recently join the Head Less Studio to collaborate on the Swords Arena Project and also with others Indie Teams Projects.
The Goal is to work faster and release our games faster plus some other interesting features to discover there.
If you are interested to know more about this consortium, please have a look at https://arcadekomodo.com/headlessstudios/
Even i am in a large group now, i’m still looking for new talents as team mates for the SWAg Project.
