Summary

I believe it’s possible for an unlisted map to get into the discovery section when they are updated by being put into some type of newly updated section.

I seen on my Storm Gauntlet (1005-8764-6183) map that it was suddenly getting a lot of views out of no where, but I never set it to listed. Then when I put it into listed it started getting the initial expected traffic.

I put it into unlisted to test with random friends and I thought putting them through the sign up process as a team member would be overkill. There were major bugs that I needed to fix so I am little worried that people were getting access to a broken version of my map in the unlisted phase of its development.

This is my hunch based on the traffic I was seeing, so I added the code above if you want to take a look deeper into what is happening.

My assumption is that Unlisted maps can only be accessed with the code.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Create an island.
  2. Publish it as Unlisted.
  3. Make a private update and publish it.
  4. Notice that it can get into the New Updates discoverable section.

Expected Result

Unlisted maps can only be accessed with the island code.

Observed Result

Island was in the new updates section in discovery.

Additional Notes

This is all just based on a hunch about a puzzling feature of the traffic I was seeing early in the Unlisted phase of the island 1005-8764-6183. However, it also might have just been the code was shared and suddenly become somewhat popular for a brief period of time.

Thanks for sharing.
