I am trying to use the world partition insights feature that was listed as a 5.8 feature. When trying to create a trace file using the appropriate channels I am not able to see anything. I’ve tried to manually open the spatial insights window in the editor and the only way to do that is to open the timing insights window and drag a completed trace into that window which eventually triggers the spatial window although it is sometimes blank unless I close it and reopen it separately. The spatial insights option is blanked out in the menu if the timing insights window is not populated. The spatial insights window is then available but no data is present, if I toggle between the different display options is states that the channels I have activated are not enabled for that trace.
I’m unable to see the session info in the timing insights window but if I open the trace through unreal insights I can see there that worldstreaming channel is not present.
Just to add I am starting PIE with the memory channel enabled.
I’m not sure if I’m not doing enough in PIE to add to any trace or if I need to activate the worldstreaming channels in a different way or with another channel but I can’t seem to get anything to load.
The Spatial profiler is meant to work on a package. You can still use it with PIE but some information won’t be available.
In your case, I guess that you are not manipulating the Timeline marker on the lower left panel. It is set to Time 0 when opening a trace and will display nothing in the case of PIE since this is based on the editor lifetime.

You can have the editor generate a minimap for Insignts using : wp.editor.GenerateStreamingDescriptor XXX ( XXX is the name of the file)
The image can then be loaded by right-clicking on the Spatial Insights panel.
Please share a trace for analysis if this doesn’t work on your end.
My Spatial Insights tab does not have a timeline to scrub. I checked if it was hidden by the show/hide World Streaming layer button but that does not do anything.

What file do I run wp.editor.GenerateStreamingDescriptor on, the insights file? If that’s what you meant, it seemed to strip everything out of the file and made it unrecognisable by insights.
How do I share trace files? The attach option in this chat only allows image files.
Sorry about wp.editor.GenerateStreamingDescriptor. I pasted the wrong command. This command simulates the cell generation and write a text file that contains the result. The argument is the name of the file to generate so it will effectively overwrite a trace.
The proper command to generate the minimap is: wp.Editor.ExportMinimapForInsights. There is no argument. You can check the Output log to get the path the file is written to.
I have been able to reproduce the problem you have when using the Spatial Insights panel in the editor. It is a bug with the layout save\restore function. It can’t really be worked around right now. I have filed a bug report so it can be fixed in a future release.
In the meantime, I recommend using the standalone Insights application to load the trace. Engine\Binaries\Win64\UnrealInsights.exe
You might have to compile it from the Visual studio solution first if it’s not there.
If the trace doesn’t work with the standalone application, you can zip the trace. It is part of the accepted file extensions.
Ah right ok, I’d already run wp.Editor.ExportMinimapForInsights then.
I’ve also tried using the standalone insights app but when I try that the spatial tab does not open and the option for the tab is greyed out in the menu.
[Image Removed]Just to check should there be an analysis module associated for World Streaming in the list?
I found the problem. The plugin is not activated by default in the 5.8 version for Insights. I was using a version for Main where it is now enabled by default. You have to explicitly activate the plugin in the settings for Insights. In Engine/Programs/UnrealInsights/Config/DefaultEngine.ini :
Can I just check, is the memory visualisation something that’s package only as when I try to view it on an editor trace it says that the correct channels aren’t active but they should be.
Memory tracing should be started with the process. It can’t be activated from the console command or the editor menu as it affects the initialization of the memory allocation system.
If you are launching from the project, ie not using Visual Studio, the easier is to use the Task Manager to retrieve the editor command line from the Details panel. If the column is absent, you can right-click on the top row to access the ‘Select columns’ UI.
I start the Editor through UnrealVS with the arguments -trace=cpu,memory,worldstreaming,worldstreamingdependencies,worldstreamingpriority,assetmetadata,metadata but when I open a trace from PIE in the editor the memory visualisation modes have a warning stating I don’t have the right channels enabled. “Allocation data or dependency data not available.” But I can run memory investigations fine so the channels are definitely active.
