UEFN video memory allocating BUG after Fortnite: OG update

UEFN error message: Out of video memory trying to allocate a rendering resource. Make sure your video card has the minimum required memory, try lowering the resolution and/or closing other applications that are running.

Hey all,
When trying to test my map I get the error I mentioned in the title… I saw it’s an error related to using DirectX 12 instead of DirectX 11, so I changed it to DX11 as shown in this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=paxK1QrP-p4 ) video…
Fortnite works, but when clicking “Launch Session” in UEFN I still get the same error.

Any thoughts? I’d really appreciate any help!

P.S. I think that switching to DX11 will mean that Lumen will not be used… I wonder if there’s a way to keep using DX12 and not get that error.

Hello WTJ, Welcome to the Forums.

What video card are you using?

If you follow the same instructions for that tutorial, but for UEFN instead, are you able to launch UEFN?

I believe Software Ray Tracing for Lumen will work with DX11, but DX12 is required for Nanite.

You posted this in the Unreal Engine section, I’ve moved it to UEFN.

Workaround:

  1. Close both UEFN and Fortnite
  2. Launch Fortnite
  3. Launch UEFN
  4. Select Connect to platform (not Launch on this PC)

Didn’t work

I have the same problem running DX12 on i5-7400 CPU with Geforce RTX4060 8GB VRAM. My map has only a player, a landscape with some buildings from the Pirate pack, Some trees from the Fortnite foliage, and ocaean, a river, a lake and thats it. The game starts and I can run around , but after a while, say 5 Minutes, the game crashes and the white box with the error-message try to allocate more memory, viedo-card a.so. appears. So I think UEFN is not production-ready, so I will switch to UE 5.3 to go on and will forget FN-Dev for a while. Hope Epic will fix the bugs with a stable 1.0 release after beta-phase.
