UEFN Crashes when loading project (March 2025)

Summary

Project loads to 98% and then crashes with the error:
Unhandled Exception: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION reading address 0x0000000000000008

There is only two pieces of landscape, an ocean and a small number of assets on the project.

It is also crashing for the team so it is a UEFN/project issue rather than my individual PC.

Platform(s)

UEFN, PC

Additional Notes

I was only just working on it yesterday and now today no one can open it. There is no verse in the project yet.

Update

I opened the log txt file from the crash reporter and found these lines near the bottom:
Fixed up invalid landscape material instances. Please re-save /PirateDeathrun/ExternalActors/PirateDeathrun/2/81/Z2AKXB835REWJ2PZ1OTHI1

There were multiple lines of that referencing different files so I went through and deleted them manually in the file explorer. If you can’t find the correct folder the project is saved in, if you launch UEFN to the project selection page, right click on the project and there is an option to open in file explorer.

This has at the very least let me launch the project. I’m yet to see if it’s a permanent fix or whether it’ll come back when I add the landscape I deleted but it’s at least open for me right now.

Copy “Z2AKXB835REWJ2PZ1OTHI1” and put it in the Outliner
