UEFN Consistently BSODs on Project Creation & Session Launch

Summary

I’m trying to get back into UEFN and have a very strange BSOD issue.

The exact behavior is:

• Creating a NEW project → BSOD near the end of project creation.
• After rebooting, the project was actually created successfully.
• I can then reopen that exact project normally.
• I can also open older projects normally.
• However, trying to LAUNCH A SESSION from any project → BSOD.
• If I use mobile data instead of my USB Wi-Fi connection, the entire problem disappears. I can create projects and launch sessions normally. This is not a permanent solution for me.

My PC: Windows 11, Ryzen 5 5600, 32GB RAM 3200Mhz, RTX 3060, Gigabyte B550M K Rev 1.1, BIOS FEe. Internet is through a TP-Link TL-WN722N v1 (Atheros AR9271) USB Wi-Fi adapter.

This exact PC + adapter worked perfectly fine on Windows 10 in 2024 and Windows 11 in early 2025. Nothing hardware-related has changed.

Latest BSOD:
KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE (0x139)
CORRUPT_LIST_ENTRY
USBXHCI!Bulk_Transfer_CompleteCancelable
Wdf01000!FxIrpQueue::RemoveIrpFromListEntry

Earlier crashes also pointed to USBXHCI/WDF during USB bulk transfers.

I’ve tried different AR9271 drivers, including the original Atheros/TP-Link driver and TamoSoft/CommView’s ts_arnusbx.sys, DDU/NVCleanInstall, reinstalling UEFN/Fortnite, reinstalling the adapter, different USB ports, Driver Verifier, and adapter/power settings. Nothing works.

I’m looking for an actual software/driver/Windows/UEFN fix, not a recommendation to buy another adapter or use mobile data. What could cause this behavior specifically on the Wi-Fi path, especially considering it worked previously on both Windows 10 and Windows 11, and is there a way to fix the underlying issue?

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Use Windows 11 with a TP-Link TL-WN722N v1 (Atheros AR9271) USB Wi-Fi adapter connected.
  2. Open UEFN.
  3. Create a new project.
  4. Let the project creation process reach the end.
  5. The PC intermittently/consistently BSODs near the end of project creation.
  6. After rebooting, open UEFN again. The project that caused the BSOD was actually created successfully and can be opened and edited normally.
  7. Open an existing project and select Launch Session.
  8. The PC BSODs again during session launch.
  9. Switching the PC to mobile-data internet makes both project creation and session launch work normally.

Expected Result

UEFN should create projects and launch Fortnite sessions without crashing Windows, regardless of whether the internet connection is through the USB Wi-Fi adapter or another network connection.

Observed Result

UEFN can open and existing projects can be edited normally. A newly created project that caused a BSOD is also usable after reboot, showing that the project itself was successfully created.

The crashes occur during new-project creation and, consistently, when launching a session.

The latest BSOD is KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE (0x139), CORRUPT_LIST_ENTRY, with the failure bucket:
0x139_3_CORRUPT_LIST_ENTRY_USBXHCI!Bulk_Transfer_CompleteCancelable

The stack also contains Wdf01000!FxIrpQueue functions and USBXHCI bulk-transfer functions.

Using mobile-data internet makes the problem disappear completely. The same PC and Wi-Fi adapter previously worked on Windows 10 in 2024 and Windows 11 in early 2025.
