Steps to Reproduce

Open Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN, latest version as of July 2025).
Add a Character Device to the scene.

Create a Level Sequence and add the Character Device to it.

  • Bug 1: Click the Character Device in the Level Sequencer and check viewport selection.
  • Bug 2: Attempt to rename the Character Device in the Level Sequencer.
  • Bug 3: Rename the Character Device in the Outliner and check Level Sequencer.
  • Bug 4: In Level Sequencer, try adjusting and keyframing the Character Device’s location (left, up, forward), rotation (roll, pitch, yaw), and scale using the viewport gizmo or via numeric values in Sequencer.

Expected Result

  • Clicking Character Device in Level Sequencer selects it in the viewport.
  • Character Device can be renamed in Level Sequencer.
  • Renaming Character Device in Outliner updates the name in Level Sequencer.
  • Location (left, up, forward), rotation (roll, pitch, yaw), and scale can be adjusted using the viewport gizmo or numeric values and keyframed in Level Sequencer.

Observed Result

  • Character Device does not select in viewport when clicked in Level Sequencer.
  • Character Device cannot be renamed in Level Sequencer.
  • Renaming in Outliner does not update the name in Level Sequencer.
  • Keyframing is unavailable for the viewport gizmo. It fails to adjust location/rotation/scale; these transform properties.

Additional Notes

As the lead at Moisty Media, I’ve encountered several frustrating issues with the Character Device in UEFN (v36.20, tested July 2025) that are hindering our cinematic trailer workflows. The bugs include: the Character Device not selecting in the viewport when clicked in the Level Sequencer, inability to rename it in Sequencer, Outliner renames not syncing to Sequencer, and failure to adjust or keyframe location, rotation, or scale via the viewport gizmo or numeric values. These problems disrupt efficient animation and scene setup, critical for delivering high-quality projects. Community forums, like the Character Device and Custom Animation mega thread, confirm similar issues, including keyframe deletions on project reload, and recent Unreal Engine 5.6 updates haven’t resolved these specific bugs despite some Sequencer fixes. I plan to monitor the Epic Developer Community for workarounds and submit this report via the UEFN support portal to push for a fix. These issues need attention to streamline our production process.
