I’ve seen a lot of videos related to the use of Nanite in VR using UE5.1 and I did some tests, but I have to say that the performances are terrible, even with an RTX 3090.
What I mean is that even with the default VR template, using the SteamVR GPU performance tool, here are the results:
Nanite Disabled: 9ms
Nanite Enabled: 16ms
I also tried to use a level developed using 4.26 where the performances were around 14-16ms, and opening a copy with 5.1, the same level runs at 24-26ms.
I usually do the same thing to optimize VR performances ( disable forward rendering, enable istanced stereo, set TSA ), but with 5.1 I also notice that the same scene compared to 4.26 is by 3-4ms higher.
I don’t expect to be able to run a packed level at 60fps, but seeing FPS tanking with the VR Template is not what I expected
