UE4 Water Shader

I actually have an idea for my map just now…
When I am ready to try it I plan on placing all the meshes I need to create the ocean around my island. They shall be 1k with 10x10 divisions
But here’s the idea. Only place a couple of sheets out from shore surrounding the island and then use a gradient of vertex colors to zero out the movement along the perimeter whereafter simple 2 poly sheets can be place. That is very close to the idea I had for LOD as well but I’ll try the LOD idea later as it involves transition tessellation planning which I may be able to accomplish via world position XY solving. tbh I don’t mind the extra work of painting vertices if it gets the desired results. I’ll expect to paint, but I hope I can still import a texture to vertex colors in UE4 and that will go significantly faster.
