Hey!
I’m a pretty unskilled 3D enthusiast. I’ve been using Maya 2014 for a while, but have recently had issues rendering.
Issue being a complete inability to render. Two questions:
(1) UE4 does not include modelling capabilities. Is this correct?
(2) If I export files from maya, can I render them in UE4, and if so is this an advisable solution?
Many thanks!
.

Hey , first of all welcome to community.
I can understand the hectic while rendering in Autodesk Maya and other 3D software.
Question 1: UE4 does not include modelling capabilities. Is this correct?
UE4 has put out a beta feature in 4.24 for mesh editing and poly editing. It’s not as advance as maya modelling but it wil do your basic work. You just have to enable them from plugin settings.
Question 2: If I export files from maya, can I render them in UE4, and if so is this an advisable solution?
This is 100% advisable solution without any doubts. I have been rendering my movies in unreal engine for last 4 years without any issues. It will be a great upgrade in your pipeline. You can look into the official documentation here
Hope this solve your doubts.
Hey Parzival!
Thankuu much for friendly greeting and support!
I guess I’ll give UE4 a go!
One further question, would you recommend the Professional or Creator version of UE?
I am very unlikely to be making a profit at any time soon…
Thanks again. You totally made my day brighter!

For your work, I would recommend creator version.
Glad I could help you. Please give the answer an up-vote.

I will totallee give the answer an upvote if you explain to me how to do that.

It’s easy as cake,
-
Make sure all the objects are properly with UV unwrap… You also have to check for normals, If the normal are reversed, the object would be transparent.
-
Name convention for rigging is to be followed, if the rig is having any similar bone name, it would fail to import the skeletal mesh.
-
While exporting export as FBX and in the animation panel, enable Bake Animation.
-
While importing keep the options default.
-
Select all your environment asset and drag into the viewport. It would be same as your maya setup.
-
Place the character animation in the scene it would be played automatically. To solve that Do the following:
6_1. Right Click in the project window, go to animation and create a new level sequence.
6_2. Set your preferred camera angle(You can also animate the camera here)
6_3. Drag your character from your hierarchy into the level sequence and you’ll see the animation is loaded there. You can drag as per you want till which frame you want. -
Click on the clap symbol button in the sequencer tab. it will give you settings in which you want to import.
-
Select you preferred way of output, Change the director in which you want to render.
-
CLICK RENDER MOVIE & voila your movie will be rendered.
Hope sop this helps you.

Parzival
Hey Parzival.27!
I would only be using unreal to render still images for the moment. Got advice or procedure for importing model from Maya 2014 to UE4? Thanks for your help thus far!
