UE says system not compatible with DirectX12 while running DirectX12.

Just got a new PC specifically for Unreal Engine 5 matching or exceeding system requirements and when attempting to launch a new project I receive the pop-up in the bottom right stating that it isn’t compatible. I ran Run > DxDiag to make sure which shows I am using DirectX12 as shown in the image.

Should I just ignore it or is there something I need to do to fix this?

Are your GPU drivers up to date?

It could also be your version of Windows.

Also check the display tab, you may have 12 installed but your gfx driver might be 11? what gfx card is it?

ok it seems you have a laptop maybe? or an APU rather than dedicated? i get the same on my laptop using intel graphics. it will possibly give you graphical glitches if you leave d3d12 but it will run (mine did anyway) consider changing to d3d11 though.

integrated graphics really are not the best and neither is the Intel 770 series really for Unreal dedicated or integrated, but dedicated would have been better

Windows 11 Pro 64-bit (10.0 Build 22621)

All drivers for Firmware, Software and Hardware are up to date.

If you hit the windows key and type winver

You should have 22H2.

It is a desktop workstation. Specifically this one from dell but customized.

Precision 3660 Tower CTO Base

how would I change the part you mentioned?

@ClockworkOcean
Mine matches that.

you would need an all new dedicated GPU unfortunatley, not cheap for anything great but you dont need top spec unless your game is really demanding, just dont skimp on it lol.

best way to check is look inside the case and see if you have a gpu card or not to be sure

What about the d3d12? I didn’t understand that part.
I understand the Graphics integrated < dedicated part.

you may have d3d12 but it might not be 100% supported, only partly, by gpu let me look at the 770 series

I see others having problems with SM6 and 5.1 with this card

That confirms it, its D3D12 “supported” after reading the information. its definatley an integrated 12th gen I5 with UHD 770

@ClockworkOcean @High500 any recommendations for a Dedicated Card to get around this?

Plenty  all depends on budget and motherboard support.

Dell notorious for modifying the motherboards. you need to find if you have at least an 8x but better a 16x PCie slot

have you tried switching to D3D11?
for now at least

Can’t find if I have a PCIe8x or 16x even after looking on the site and the packing slip for it. how would I change to D3D11?

goto Edit>Project Settings

type directx in the search
change to directx 11

It’s a pretty recent machine though. I think just waiting will be enough?
