UE 5.7 Megaplants - Dynamic Wind Crashes Level on load

Hello!

I’m fairly new to UE5. I am trying to make an archviz interior walkthrough with 2 versions of the same level (day and night).

Jumping out on the balcony you can see some trees - so I wanted to give the new Procedural Vegetation Editor a try. Used a few Megaplants European Aspen trees with the default Dynamic Wind animation from the Zoo Level provided with the PVE Plugin.

All good if I stay in the same level - loads correctly, no crash. But I need to be able to switch to the night time level trough a widget menu - the moment I select the night time level from that menu it crashes - in the editor just from time to time (maybe every 2-3 times) but in the packaged game I get a fatal error every time.

I’ve used both PCG and individually places Blueprints. Both situations give me the same result.

I’ve also increased the TDR Delay to 60 seconds as many people were suggesting online - to no effect.

I doubt it’s a hardware limitation since my workstation is fairly powerful (AMD Ryzen 9 16cores, 128gb RAM and an RTX4090 GPU).

Any thoughts on how to fix this? Thank you!

Attached images of the two errors I get (packaged and editor).

Hello there @AKETTE!

Since you are combining two recent, experimental features, there’s not much data around the community in regards to their potential interactions and/or clashes with each other.

Checking with my peers, an approach to a solution here would be to allow the engine some form of pause when switching levels. Test by setting up a blueprint, to temporary disable Dynamic Wind, with a short delay attached (half a second should be enough), then switch to the night level.

Alternatively, you could create a persistent level that contains all vegetation and wind effects, then use streaming to switch to night, which should keep megaplants and dynamic wind untouched during the transition.

Yet, if the crash persists, the path remaining would be to avoid using these features combined. You can replace dynamic wind with simple wind node. Remember that both tools are experimental, still under active development.
