In Unreal Engine 5.6 Preview was an issue with baking static lights because Swarm Manager wasn’t included in Binaries/DotNET.
I thought it was a preview issue and expected release version to have swarm manager or remove static ligts support in favor for Lumen RTGI. But I am still able to select None for Global Illumination and still cannot bake lights:
Failed to initialize Swarm. Check to make sure you have the right version of Swarm installed.
Can anyone from Unreal team clarify what’s going on?
same here. i hope they include it in the release. tip i got from a forum member: for now… you can c/p the binaries from 5.5 and it should work. does the trick for me. : )
I know. But UE 5.6 is not in preview anymore, so I’m a little confused that it still just errors out because UE team usually just removes broken things until they fix them
ohh… it’s out? didn’t check, yet. either way… you can still do it? if it works it works. sure gotta bug the developers to include it. this feature is supposed to be officially working. hmmhmm…
there is still use for it. where the engine doesn’t deliver a stable image. yes.
I’m one of those people, I’ve been developing my own fork of UE4.27-Plus because every release of UE5 has been a terrible experience - extremely frequent crashes doing elementary things (UE 5.4 crashed on building lighting on a simple scene on a new project…) or generally poor performance. I was tempted to try 5.6 since it has a seemingly improved performance and I thought that maybe it matched UE4 level of performance. While the performance has gotten better, it still doesn’t match UE4 in my case (CPU performance is atrocious in UE5, yikes) and seeing how they still screw up such basic things… I’ve decided to stay on UE4 just to have a stable and performant work tool.

Sorry to bother, you are probably not involved in baked lighting but i just don’t know anyone else who visit forums from graphics devs. could you please bring attention to this to someone who works in this area? Swarm didn’t work in 5.6 preview and still doesn’t work in 5.6 release build from the launcher.
When we click “build lighting” button - we get this message :
Confirming in my project as well, doing a test upgrade of a project from 5.4 to 5.6 which is all baked lighting and now I can’t build any of that ha. Same error message.
I just tested it by making a new project using the VR template and it indeed does not work. I suspect this is just an oversight and hope they can fix this in one of the hotfixes.
