Yes, that is very frustrating, especially since you need to rewind frequently ;-). The only way I managed to do this was to pop-out the video (a Firefox feature, not sure if it is in Chrome or other browsers). I then had the options to skip back, pause and skip forward a few seconds. Those buttons also have shortcuts: left, space and right.
Okay, Iâm losing my mind over this. At some point, the M_Plastic material that you turned pink, turned back to white, but the crate continued to have it as pink. I didnât notice this until you imported the orb, because the colours were different from mine.
Did I miss a step somewhere? I noticed itâs like this in the Stack-o-bot project as well and I canât sort out how/why
It`s so frustrating having this tutorial in an embedded player. If I could watch it using VLC, then global keyboard shortcuts were available for pause/play/ backwards/forwards and speed. Much better.
Would you mind to enable the âDownload videoâ option for this tutorial?
This tutorial goes way too fast and also doesnât really explain the âwhyâ behind what is going on which means that while you can do the things in the tutorial, it ends up feeling like you are just learning how to copy what the presenter is doing and not learning the underlying concepts so that you can apply them in other situations. There is still value in the tutorial but donât waste time trying to understand the fine details because there really isnât anything to be gained from that.
So far not too many issues with following along but when it came to the character movement, when I enabled Orient Rotation to Movement, when play in the editor the robot only slightly turns to the left or right but does not for example turn around completely if the cursor is behind it.
If anyone knows whatâs going on that would be amazing. I already checked if it was just my robotâs feet getting stuck in the ground and that wasnât the case.
Yeah, the lack of navigation buttons in the player (a la YouTube) is pure murder here. It is one thing if the video is tabbed and rewindable 5, 10 seconds; pausable with spacebar, etc⊠But using a mouse to move a slider to rewind guarantees youâll waste 30 seconds everytime you only need to backup 5 seconds. ⊠After a bit, since I was also playing around with engine tutorial assests in place of StackOBot, I just let the video run. A little more structure to the player, and the pace would be fine because you could easily go back, but slider mucks it all up.
Thank you kind sir or madame
The pacing on this video is ridiculous with no bookmarks, chapters, or hotkeys to pause and rewind this is not a follow along type video. Nor does it actually teach you anything other than a few basic concepts and what buttons to press in what order to achieve these results.
thanks!
Iâm an experienced developer and the video would ebb and flow and insane paces. His words would be beyond the video and the clicks were so fast that you had to figure out what he just did.
So many missing, critical explanations that I needed to figure out for myself. I appreciate the content and the thought put into the tutorial, but this was brutal to get through.
I agree, coming here after the First hour in Unreal 5 tutorial was extremely hard to follow, If this is intended to be made for beginners its way too fast
I agree that the pace is nightmarish and there seems to be a real âcurse of knowledgeâ situation with the lack of explanation (of anything). But I think ever since switching to the Dev Community and the transition to 5, this has been an issue. Thereâs no clear path forward for new users and huge amounts of information left out or some odd expectation that complete newbies know as much as the dev team. I hate to say it, but education is an area where Unity is winning.
Anyway, this needs to be updated for 5.3 ASAP because the Axis and Action bindings have been deprecated and some minor features have changed, so itâs even harder to follow along. The project shouldnât be listed as 5.3 compatible if itâs teaching an outdated workflow. And for the love of whatever higher power you do or do not believe in, break it up into smaller chapters and add some playback features (like .25X speed).
In general the content of this video is really good 8/10, but in terms of learning or pedagogy it is like 3/10.
I worked as an interactive designer and ux designer in a studio that was specialize in museums exhibitions and teaching through games.
1st the pace is WAY too fast.
2nd the clicking is fast and worst without explanation, like âI go there to get this hereâŠâ. When you make a video for beginners you have to take in consideration some kind of clumsiness and anxiety of your viewers, so reduce the pace, even if it is a video with pause play rewind options. And please do a little pause between subjects. Make your content breathe.
3rd As I can see lots of people didnât understood how to get the content, so explain it step by step.
4th In terms of UX/UI your media player ui and buttons is too small, I was looking the tutorial on my ipad and working on my PC, but the buttons are so smalls in the bottom that it was a horrible experience in terms of touchscreen.
Like I said the intent and general content of this tutorial is good, but it is one of the worst in terms of educational content.
You are a hero. Thanks!
When I press P even with the navigation ON in the show panel I donât see the navmesh visible why?
Awesome work, apart from the fast pace everything was 100% helpful.
However, when i try to import the Rock FBX, the program freezes. Is this intentional?
You donât move the origin of the level, but rather set the target location for your AI controller to somewhere within the playable nav mesh.
Thanks, I can confirm this happens also in version 5.3. I guess this is the case in future updates as well.
Nov 2023, thank you so much! I spent a lot of time on itâŠ
First of all, thanks a lot for this tutorial!
As many others have pointed out, the sheer amount of content covered was amazing and very informative; however, from an educational perspective, itâs really hard to follow along with the voiceover due to its speed as well as some key details being left out altogether.
