Trying to recreate the portal effect in this video

As a part of a student project I’m trying to create a portal inspired by the one in this video:

But cant figure out how to recreate the “Event Horizon” of the portal. (the red part that looks like its sucking matter in.)

I suspect it’s done with the panner in the material editor, but I’m not sure how to set up the UV’s to make it look seamless.

What i tried so far was creating a half sphere, dividing the UV’s in 4 pieces and placing them on top of eachother in a corner. Then I used the panner to pan the texture diagonally so it looks like everything is moving towards the center of the half-sphere. But it didnt work the way I wanted to because it creates visible seams.

Does anyone have time to help a rookie out? :slight_smile:

Solved it without panning textures, instead I used a movie texture which I rendered out in Maya. Here’s how, incase someone is wondering:
