Hello! Im glad to present my new Unreal project along with my very talented team: @AlvGC , @Cinthia and @KatarinaArntsen .
Our project consists in making a full playable level on Unreal using the “Lyra” game from UE marketplace as template. We wanted to be as creative a we could while designing our level, so we had the idea of making something stylized using one of two ideas, “Alice in wonderland” or “Treasure Planet”.
So the first step in order to decide over a topic was to search a lot of references of both ideas (props, lighting, colors, environments, etc) and then analyze them all to find pros and cons between them.
Finally, we found Pirates more interesting to work on given the fact that it applies more for a shooter type game and that the props/models were not very organic, which, could be more time consuming:
Here Are some of the moodboards we did for the first step of the project along with the first approximation of blocking (we all did one blockout).
Hello! In this entry I’m going to share with you the second week progress of the Lyra: re-skinning project with my teammates @AlvGC, @Cinthia, @KatarinaArntsen .
For this week we decided to focus entirely on the pirates idea (using Treasure Planet as our main reference) and we proceeded to make some tests on the look and feel of our models, trying to make a balance between stylized modeling and “realistic” textures, so we made some basic models that could be used after to be scattered around on the environment.
While me, @Cinthia and @KatarinaArntsen were modeling and testing objects, @AlvGC made a more complex blocking of the ships linking it to the Lyra Game itself.
For now I’ll share with you the new blocking, some of the props we modeled and the video that shows our environment.
Hello Guys! Im back with some new things about our environment. We decided from now on to upload changes twice a week. Also another thin we decided is to divide the work in two teams @AlvGC and @KatarinaArntsen are going to be in charge of modeling ant texturing the pirates ship, while @Cinthia and me the soldiers one.
We have made some adjustments to both ships in regards of size, making them a little bit smaller. We also started making some modular assets.
Here are some pictures of the new blockout and modular assets, Hope you like them:
Thank you for choosing UE to build your Treasure Planet project and for bringing us along on your journey. The ship started off very massive, but well planned out. I really like the assets that you’ve chosen thus far. It’s definitely on par with your mood board.
I’m looking forward to what you and your team reveal next! Keep up the great work, everyone! Team work makes the dream work!
Are you all students? If so, what are you all studying?
Hello again! Im back for new things to show you of our re-skin project!
With the final blocking of both ships (pirates and soldiers) we decided to start doing modular assets, the most important ones (walls, windows, fences, railings, stairs, etc). Those assets that could be duplicated around all the scene. @Cinthia, @KatarinaArntsen and me were in charge of doing all these assets (with uv maps already).
Meanwhile, @AlvGC was in charge of finishing the shape of the two boats and consequently, had some time spent doing the collisions so as a master material for testing out the textures already.
Here are some pictures of our project so far, Hope you like them!
Hello! As I said, Im back again this week to show you some new things of our project! Sorry for the delay, but it has been quite an occupied week.
This week we basically kept doing modular assets in order to gave both boats a much more complex form (more assets, boats beams, masts, etc). Meanwhile we were applying some basic materials and texturing some of the assets.
I’m happy to see you back with another update! I respect the consistency!
You all are doing a great job with the textures and the appropriately themed/matched assets! I really love the polished look of the staircase combined with the imperfections of age and exposure. Will you be designing the ship to be space-faring, like the Treasure Planet movie, or will the ship be seafaring?
Hello again @Get_DOVAH_it ! So glad to see you again in our thread! and thank you so much for you comments! we really appreciate it! and Yeah, we are thinking of the ship to be a space-faring just like the movie, we are thinking to do something with the sky at unreal to emulate deep space!
Greetings, We are back with some new things to show you about our project. Basically this week we focused on keep modeling modular assets for both ships, so as Uvs and texturing the ones that were ready finished. I think we may be doing these kind of assets for a couple of weeks more, and then to start modeling more particular and interesting objects! So as their implementation on UE.
For now, let me show you this week pictures. Hope you like them!
Hello guys, we are finally. back with more to show of our reskin! This time we did a lot of things, so let me tell you about it.
We are having some troubles in terms of sharing the project (we are trying to use perforce or github for that, but we still have not solved that for the moment) So we are rotating the project, this week @Cinthia was in charge of it, placing all the models, giving a first lighting approach, and also modeled a modular mast for the soldiers ship.
Hello guys, This week has been very short for us! we’ve been doing some more things for our project that we wanted to share with you! We started to do more particular models (some unique and original models, so as prop heroes) focusing on the captains room for now. Also, @Cinthia implemented a really cool ropes system with a blueprint in unreal, so we can add, adjust and create different kind of ropes to the project!
Here are some pictures for you!
Hope you like them!
Even though I’m a little late to the party, it’s lovely to see the progress you and your team have made on your Treasure Planet: Lyra Re-skin project! Your team has been diligently developing these past couple of weeks, and it shows; keep up the great work!
Amazing work on fleshing out the assets and textures, and implementing the really cool Blueprint for the rope configurations! I really admire the team effort here to make it work despite the challenges you face!
I’m not sure how you’re planning to develop the look of the sails, but I was reminded of NASA’s Sunjammer - the solar sail. It’s made of lightweight, reflective material and relies on the pressure generated by sunlight to maneuver it through space. There are also smaller sails at the end of each of four booms will act as rudders to help the craft navigate. Here’s a pic in case you haven’t seen it before.
Hello again! thank you so much, means a lot for us! we are doing our best!
The NASA’S solar trail is really cool, we were planning on doing something quite similar, but this is an awesome reference, thank you so much, Ill do some research about it and surely we will develop something similar!
Hello again! Today monday (depending on which part of the globe you are reading us) I’ll be showing you some few more assets on our unreal project! The main object is to finish all important models of our ships throughout the week, so as keep modeling props for our main rooms (captains rooms), so for now Ill show you some progress along with
some unreal captures.
Also, I would like to Add some Lighting references of our project, there are some interior ones and outside, for the outside we would like it to be outer space, with some nebulas, asteroids and a global light thad the main skybox along with a directional light would give us.
The pleasure is all mine. I hope you and your team are doing well this week! A space-themed background with nebulas and asteroids sounds amazing! I can’t wait to see what your team pulls off.
Hi everyone! As usual, I have new things to tell you about our UE project. So basically for this week we did some corrections in regards of lighting, but our main approach was to keep modeling more important assets for the soldiers captain room. Here are the shots! Hope you like them!
Hello Again! Im back, sooner than I thought, but with plenty of progress to show you all! Most of the new models were finally implemented to the project with their respective materials. On the other hand, we were working on the pirates ship as well, so the modular structures should be finished quite soon.
Also @Cinthia, has started developing the skybox in outer space for our illumination, When its done, We will migrate it to our project!
Also, I wanted to tell you that this is our final post of the year, since we are having the christmas break. I dont know If we are going to be able to make a lot of progress during the break, but if we do so, ill be pleased to share them with you on the next post!
