Translucent shader that casts dynamic shadow


I have a wire mesh object (chain link fence) that i`d like to have the appearance of a translucent mesh ie soft alpha in the mip maps to distance (masked is very noisy) but can still cast dynamic shadows.

I thought if perhaps you could have two objects, one with a translucent opacity for the visual and an exact copy with a mask opacity which would do the shadow casting but it would need to be hidden, and yet still cast a shadow.

Any ideas?


Ah, typical. I just discovered “Render in Main Pass” in the object details settings. I created a copy of the object, assigned a opacity masked version of my chain link fence and it hides the mesh but continues to render the dynamic shadow :slight_smile:
