Hi everyone, I have a problem with translucencent materials using raster for trans method, for example coffee table and lamp. They are catching light from skylight or HDRIbackdrop from outside even if they are inside the room. Searched internet all around, tried to ask ai, no results. Closest thing I found is that you can turn off “Affect translucent lighting” box in DirectLight and it solves it, but I use direct light+skylight (or hdri). Skylight’s “affect” box already turned off and have no effect if I press it or not. Seen people have this issue from 5.0 even in 5.8 it’s still there. Hope some of you have a solution already, thanks.
Hello there @LoadScreen!
Checking with my peers, the reason why turning off “Affect Translucent Lighting” works is that removes the light’s direct input into the surface, but the skylight is indirect, so you still see it. Is Lumen enabled in your scene? It could be more taxing on the scene, but translucency and reflections should behave better with it.
If that’s not an option, I would test with lighting channels. You can put your interior translucent objects and lights on a dedicated channel that excludes the Skylight, and separately light the interior with a local light source on that same channel.
Additionally, please double check that your walls and ceiling have enought thickness to block the external light. If those surfaces are too thin, there’s a chance for light to just spill over your interior.
Thanks for answer, yeah lumen is on. I have this problem only if I use translucency method - raster in postprocess, in ray tracing everything is find it’s just heavier on hardware and have strange flickering which I couldn’t get rid off, only reduce.
Already tried light channels, handmade in 3ds max and auto in unreal, no results
Ceiling and floor thickness 10cm, walls are 20cm. Don’t think that it’s an issue
