Steps to Reproduce

  • Place a pinball bumper device in the level
  • Keep all default settings (which should include “Enabled at Start” and “Allow Top Bounce” as True
  • Play game and jump on top of the pinball bumper device

The player should be launched upwards by the “UpTrigger” part of the device.

Observed Result

Additional Notes

After more testing, it turns out this is a simpler issue. The “Top Bounce” no longer works on the pinball bumper devices.

Placing a brand new pinball bumper device that is already enabled by default (including the Top Bounce) will not bounce the player from the top.

Yes the pinball bumper is not bounces a player even if you put the power setting on the maximum.. it just shows that gets activated but its actualy not bounce you.

Thanks both, we have a repro here, and the team will take a look.

Thanks Flak! Will we need to wait for another major Fortnite update for the fix?

My island is broken because of this issue, so I’m wondering if I need to build a workaround for it (which isn’t ideal) or wait until the core issue is fixed (if it can be quickly hotfixed).

Hi, is it possible to get an update on this issue please?

My level is still broken, but yesterday it was shown on discovery which massively boosted the player numbers. None of the players could progress and quickly left which I’m sure will have damaged its reputation and likely affect the algorithm displaying it on discovery again in future.

I was just on the level and watched as a player spent 5 minutes trying so hard to work around the issue before giving up and leaving the game. I feel so bad that I can’t help them and just fix it myself.

@Flak

I’m at a loss right now…

A significant amount of time and effort was put into updating the island just prior to the Fortnite update. It even got some time on discovery, but it fell flat because players couldn’t progress due to this issue.

I appreciate you looking into this issue so quickly, but the fix still isn’t in the game nearly a week later.

If possible, it would be extremely helpful to have a clearer timeline on when certain fixes should make it into the game so that we can plan accordingly and also make our players aware. Otherwise it’s just going to look like incompetence on the side of the creator.

Had I not spent hours over the weekend creating workarounds to the issue, players still wouldn’t be able to progress in the level. The workarounds aren’t ideal and the level is still very much broken, but I would’ve done it sooner had I known it would take this long to get the proper fix in.

Here’s something else to consider (please let me know if I’m wrong with this)… Part of the reason I held out on releasing a workaround patch was because of the perceived “value” given to it by the discovery algorithm. The initial update had a lot of time and effort put into it, which is likely why it was given time on discovery, but now this workaround patch will almost certainly appear as low value in comparison, meaning the ship has sailed.

I don’t mean this post to come across as overly negative, but it’s definitely the kind of thing that need to be discussed and considered when you’re encouraging developers/creators to build their own studios and games using your platform.

Game breaking issues are going to happen, but we need to make sure it’s being handled properly to ensure players continue to have a great experience and creators are being protected from any negative backlash or loss in players.

Thanks for listening to my TED Talk.

Welcome to the club. My map has been broken in one way or another from issues created by Epic (broken barriers, broken item spawners, broken switches) with either no work around or no good work around since the beginning of June. This, after the map had been released and working fine for a few months. Very discouraging.

FORT-971008 is ‘Closed’ as ‘Fixed’. The issue will be addressed in 37.40.

How long will it take to fix this stupid bug? Every of my parkour maps is broken.

37.31 so we wait another 1-2 weeks its a joke?

I’m sorry to hear that… It’s strange because these kinds of issues should be caught by automated testing.

After in-game testing with the latest update, the pinball devices are still not working correctly.

The current fix only resolves the issue for devices that push the player straight up. It doesn’t work when the device is angled, as in my original example. The top bounce trigger should push the player in the direction the top of the device is facing, not just vertically.

Please reopen the issue as my level is still broken due to this.
