TIMEOUT Error on Last-Gen consoles

Summary

Hi Everyone !

I’m here 'cause we need a little help from you. Currently, I have an island working on PC as intended, but the big problem we have is: old-gen consoles (PS4, Switch, XB1).

Right now, for those consoles, if you want to start a new match, the game goes to the loading screen and, after some seconds (even minutes), it shows you a TIMED OUT error. The big problem is… That issue isn’t consistent at all!

We did two attempts for each console, with the following results:
__
PS4

  1. The player can’t join and the message shows up.
  2. The player can’t join but without the error message.

PS5

  1. The player joined and the match works as intended.
  2. The player joined and the match works as intended.

Switch

  1. The player can’t join and the message shows up.
  2. The player can’t join. The loading screen took at least 10 minutes.

Xbox One

  1. The player can’t join and the message shows up.
  2. The player had to wait a lot but they joined to the match and play as intended.
    __

This problem is occurring only with this island, meaning none of the other islands or projects that my team have been working on, have been affected by this problem. With that in mind, we thought this could be related with the project itself, specially with the game performance (EG: Multiple calls during the initial phase of the island).

We launched a session directly from UEFN to the PS4 with an empty map and it worked! We started to make some optimization work to improve performance, but when we created a private code to test again… It fails in all last-gen consoles. Even with the Empty map test!

So we decided to replicate the same test we made earlier, sending the “empty map” session and our game map session directly to the console… and it works again.

So, the clues that we have right now are:

  • Sending the entire session from UEFN to the consoles has a high probability of work as intended (It works in PS4, but it didn’t work in Switch).
  • Create private codes for those consoles to testing purposes, will always fail.

Do you have any info that can help us ? Could you give us a hand here please? I’ll really appreciate it !

Steps to Reproduce

Launching session directly:

  1. Launch Session from UEFN to the console where the Dev is logged in.
  2. The game goes to the loading screen.
  3. The player sometime goes in to the match (PS4 & Xbox have a high chance to work). The error msg appears (sometimes).

Generating a Private code:

  1. Go to Fortnite Lobby
  2. Put the private code
  3. Join the match.
  4. The game goes to the loading screen.
  5. The player never goes in to the match in any console. The error msg appears (sometimes).

Expected Result

  1. The player start the match (by private code or sending the session directly).
  2. The game goes to the loading screen.
  3. The player successfully goes in to the match in any console.

Observed Result

The player never enters to the match in last-gen consoles, using a private code. However, sending the session directly has more chances to enter, but only on PS4 and Xbox.

Platform(s)

PS4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One.
