Third Person Controls Device Broken Player Facing mode

Summary

The third person controls device has inconsistent “Player Facing” behavior when using Twin Stick settings. The player character sometimes gets stuck facing upward, or directly forward instead of staying aligned to the cursor. This can be temporarily fixed by respawning the player, but it may break again after playing. It usually happens on game start.

Steps to Reproduce

  • Place a Fixed Angle Camera device
  • Place a Third Person Controls device
  • set “Facing Direction” = Twin Stick
  • set “Twin Stick Mouse Aim Mode” = Target Cursor
  • Give yourself a weapon so its easier to see which direction the player is facing
  • Start game, attempt to spin around and watch if player rotation follows cursor
  • Start and End game a few times. Sometimes it will happen on first play, sometimes it will happen randomly while running around.

Expected Result

Player character ALWAYS faces the direction of the cursor.

Observed Result

Player character rotation gets locked to either straight up or straight forward, regardless of cursor position.

Additional Notes

There seem to be two different bugs happening:

  1. Player faces directly upwards, facing the sky
  2. Player faces directly forwards at all times, towards the top of the screen in top down perspective
