These settings are saved in DefaultEditor.ini which is currently not writable.

Summary

I migrated some niagara systems I made in a previous project to my new one and now I can not edit any new or exisiting niagara systems. I’m getting this message “These settings are saved in DefaultEditor.ini which is currently not writable.” With a button that says Make Writable but when I press the button I get this : LogObj: Warning: Ini File ‘…/…/…/FortniteGame/Config/DefaultEditor.ini’ is read-only and cannot be written to.

So obviously it wants the file to not be read only but I can’t find it. About 2 hours in searching for it. Used windows built in search function but still can’t it. I have like 10 DefaultEditors from normal Unreal Engine but they are all set to writable.

Sorry to bump but any ideas? Niagara particles are pretty crucial to what I was working on.

While trying to load package /Game/Effects/Fort_Effects/Gameplay/Pickups/Effects/NS_Pickup_RareAmbient, a dependent package /Game/Effects/Niagara/DynamicInputs/TimeOfDay/FNTimeOfDayScalar was not available. Additional explanatory information follows:
FPackageName: Skipped package /Game/Effects/Niagara/DynamicInputs/TimeOfDay/FNTimeOfDayScalar has a valid, mounted, mount point but does not exist either on disk or in iostore. The uncooked file would be expected on disk at ‘C:/Program Files/Epic Games/Fortnite/FortniteGame/Content/Effects/Niagara/DynamicInputs/TimeOfDay/FNTimeOfDayScalar.uasset’. Perhaps it has been deleted or was not synced?

Still getting about 40 of these errors.

On top of that I’m getting this warning on all niagara emitters that I have made, new and existing systems. When I click the “Make Writable” button it tells me this :

I have searched my entire pc for FortniteGame/Config/Defaulteditor.ini. It apparently does not exist on either one of my drives. But just to be sure I’ve set every FortniteGame folder and its contents to writable. I have also tried uninstalling every version of unreal engine, UEFN, and Fortnite and reinstalling. No results.

Still having this problem. It’s really limiting my projects. I’ve come to the conclusion that I’m missing the DefaultEditor.ini? I’ve tried creating a new one myself at the location the last posted screenshot says. No results.

I’ll see if I can get someone to assist.

I will try to dig deeper, but I suggest trying a reinstall first. There should be no need, and it is not advised, to change .ini files.

Did you happen to migrate the project to somewhere else other than UEFN before bringing it back into UEFN? We’re trying to figure out why the Time of day scalar would work in one and not the other.
