“And… is everything real or Unreal?”
A monologue by me.
PROCESS:
Thanks to Polycam I could easily create a 3D scan of my face with very high precision, just from a recorded video!
I created a workflow to convert the 3D scan to a metahuman + 8k texture of myself based on 24MP pics.
The 8k texture was created with Blender + KeenTools FaceBuilder plugin and Photoshop replacing the standard metahuman 2k albedo texture.
The power of Unreal Engine gave me the possibility to see everything in real-time, changing lights, camera angles, etc, everytime when necessary.
And just with an iPhone, I could capture my facial expressions and use the MetaHuman Animator method.
Rendered in UE 5.3 with Lumen.
Also, this video was possible thanks to my RTX GPU and Nvidia Studio driver. It was incredibly fast to render every single frame, even with anti-aliasing.
Video editing and color grading was made with Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects.
And the Matrix effect was made thanks to Neural Filters in Photoshop, which I created an action to automatically apply the filter on every single frame of this specific scene.
Hope you like it!

Hi there @andersonrohr,
Hope you’re well and having a spectacular week so far
What a profound and thought-provoking bit of dialogue. I’m utterly obsessed with the facial expression animation. It looks so fluid and realistic. What specifically inspired you to create this?

Hey @PresumptivePanda ! Hope you’re doing well too.
Thank you so much for your feedback, it means a lot to me!!
Well, these days I was watching The Matrix again and… everytime I watch that I got me thinking about some things like “what is real? Unreal?” (pun intended everytime hahah). So the script came naturally.
And… nothing better than Unreal Engine to create something unreal… or real? (to show how metahumans are getting too realistic).
Thank you and have a great weekend!

Thanks for taking the time to respond and explain I might need to take a deeper look into The Matrix - especially now with AI and metahuman realism being so attainable. Do you plan on creating more of this series or was it more of a one time project?

Hello @PresumptivePanda !
Yeah I’ll probably create more scripts to continue exploring with my metahuman. Not sure if it will be with the same subject or others.
I recently scanned my parents too. I’m curious to explore their skins with wrinkles for creating custom textures. Also, I’m thinking to ask them to record some facial expressions

You definitely should! Get to do some rad techy-Unreal stuff while bonding with the parents. Sounds like a great time.
