The Witcher 3 Thread

Right? That’s how bad the writing is. MLP has better writing than Witcher.

You go too far, sir!

Witcher loves it some state politics and philosophy. I’ve been really enjoying the game - my load times have been non-existent and the world is gorgeous and fun to explore. Not to mention the character animations.

I really think the game is fantastic as well. The only thing I have to complain about is that the character movement feels awful. Don’t get me wrong though, it looks amazing but I would like for the animations to stop a bit quicker so it felt more responsive, and I’ve already set it to use hardware cursor. I’m guessing it would feel better on a gamepad but I just can’t get used to playing on them anymore, I prefer Mouse and keyboard. And for such a big title to only have one thing for me to complain about is huge, I complain all the time which is the main reason I started making my own games (so i have no one else to blame).

Also for anyone that have some extra graphics power left after setting the game to Ultra, use DSR in nVidia control panel. I’ve set mine to render at 2556x1400 on my 1920*1200 display and it actually only cost me about 5-10 fps (down to about 45 fps on my single GTX 970) and made a huge difference! Everything is so much smoother, almost no aliasing at all.

Also I did notice a lot more stable framerate when putting the game on a ramdisk if anyone want to try, I guess it helps when loading in huge textures from the hdd/ssd into graphics memory since my ram is about 2800% faster than my SSD. It also made my previous 3-5 seconds loading screens nonexistent when loading a save or such, but that’s not really a big deal since the game already loads so quickly and there are (almost) no loading screens in the game.

I’ll say the foliage and trees blowing in the wind is my favorite part of the combat in this. I know that doesn’t make sense at first but fighting ghouls that are running around in tall grass can prove difficult when you can’t see when they’re about to pounce. Playing on Death March is so thrilling.

The minimum processor for TW3 is a Phenom II x4 940, would I have a problem running it on a Phenom II 830 Quad? From the comparison of the two online they seem neck and neck. All of my other components meet the minimum requirements.

Totally! I’ve been playing on Death March too and it’s amazing! I die tons but it’s worth it, every fight is interesting. Best difficulties I’ve seen in a game in a long time. Monsters doesn’t just get more HP and hit harder or some **** like that, in Witcher 3 they hit harder, get better/more aggressive/smarter AI and stuff like that which makes a huge difference! Also really enjoy getting less experience on Death March, in games like Skyrim I always got to a too high level because I want to do everything which ended up ruining the game when everything got too easy.

Just switched from a melee/signs build to Alchemy and it’s really fun! I now go alechemy but don’t bother with bombs and use melee for damage. A lot more fun than melee + spam quen every second like I used to.

Now I spec something like this:

For someone who didn’t like Witcher 2, do you think I should get 3 ? (I’m kinda resisting not to but all the crowd loves it so I might be so wrong about it)

Absolutely! I did not like the previous games but watched the story on in preparation for Witcher 3 and I completely love the new game. I’m usually not a fan at all of third person games like these, that I feel might as well just be first person or at least have an option for it, but the new one feels so much better than the previous game and I actually don’t have a problem with it being third person only (even though I’d love to try it in first person).
I also don’t like linear corridor worlds like the previous games but the new one is completely open to it’s perfect. If you like the Elder Scrolls games (except for the god awful MMO), you’ll love it, it has everything you’d want out of a game like this and more. As much as it hurts saying it, it beats all the Bethesda games any day (The fallout games have always been my favorite). At the moment, no other similar titles can compete.

Wow… here it gets complicated. I… am the biggest skyrim/fallout hater of all time haha.
I loved Dragon Age 1-2, but really hated 3. I loved Overlord 1-2 so my problem isn’t with the genre but some games make me feel goood, I never could get involved with Fallout 3 nor Witcher 2, less than a couple hours spent for each and I was done even though the money is gone I just can’t convince myself to play more.
I’m watching witcher 3 trailers/gameplays, trying to brainwash myself that I really like the game. We’ll see what happens when I get it.

The game is great, but the sound and`s voice can get boring sometimes. Its much much more complicated than Skyrim

From my understanding of it, it’s due to him being a Witcher. They are generally devoid of all emotion. Geralt apparently isn’t as bad off as most of them, but it’s still there. Letho for example seems to be at the very end of that spectrum. =P

Oh, thats figures :stuck_out_tongue:

I can’t see the hype, the writing was so bad with the first and second Witcher, I had to stop playing. Normally, I would just look past that and have fun, but this transcended poorly written. I wondered if I was reading some sort of unfamiliar self-aware fan-fiction at points.
[/]

Have you been able to play Witcher 3 yet? I’m curious what you think of the writing and what your criticisms might be. Personally, I’ve found the overall story arc to be well plotted, and the dialogue to be well done so it would probably be instructive to hear the counter argument for sure.

I do notice that most of the dialogue scenes are exposition heavy and the blocking amounts to ‘people standing around talking to each other’, which doesn’t make for great filmmaking, but I’m unsure of how you’d solve that in an interactive setting. GTA and Dead Redemption made good use of travel time to have conversations between characters, and that certainly felt less static but wasn’t a perfect solution either.

So who all is playing on death march?

I am! It’s really fun and the difficulties are so well made in Witcher 3 compared to just about every other game.

Witcher 3’s story is significantly better than Witcher 2. I also thought the dialogues in Witcher 2 were painful to read/listen to.

Bad localization maybe? What language version did you play? I enjoyed Russian version of Witcher 2, I think it is one of the best Russian localizations of video games ever made. I usually play English versions of games, this is one of those rare cases where I prefer a localized version.

Well all of the Witcher games are made in Poland. I imagine they all are originally in Polish, so even the English versions are localized. I’ve never had a problem with the voice acting in these games, then again I’m not very picky. I am sad that they changed Dandelion’s voice actor in this one though, I liked his sort of whiny voice in the other two games.

I thought it was just the voice actor for the loading screen narration by Dandelion that’s different, since he’s much older when telling the story. To my ears the in-game VA is the same from W2, sounds just like him.

I love how they optimized the vast wilderness, but really hate what they did to combat and character movement.
Also, I’m having troubles understanding why they did such a poor transition between moving and still water.

But yeah, it’s still an game that I enjoy playing. Maybe Bloodborne controls and combat have spoiled me…

Oh goody, I haven’t actually met him in game yet, I had just assumed that it was the same. Glad to see them go into enough detail to get a whole different voice actor for the loading screens then.
