Not sure how guy in NY is relevant but, I mean sure if they are satisfied with having a sub-par set of the marketplace and potentially lose money on sales. It’s not my company. It’s just that, their competitors have a lot of basic features people are requesting.
Knowing how corporations work, I can almost guarantee that the problem is budget. There is no other problem, unless you’re trying to invent something that’s never been invented before.
And budget comes from profit, or the prospect of future profit.
Is there any provision for charging for upgrades? In the case of code/blueprint plugins, they tend to have to be adapted to newer versions of the engine. Sometimes, can be a significant amount of work. Without a good pay-for-upgrades system, the marketplace is going to become full of broken plugins, because it will often not make sense for the author to update their plugin so that previous clients can just get a free update. That’s the reason I keep hearing the Mac App Store doesn’t do well with productivity software. The business model for productivity packages is to establish a large client base and then provide enough value that a good percentage of them will upgrade to the next version for a small amount, and new customers still pay the full amount.
Hey CleanCut,
Unfortunately right now that isn’t available but the staff is aware of the request. Hopefully it will be among the changes to come year.

Knowing is half the battle. Thanks!

Are competitors engines marketplaces allowing content creators to charge for updates? As far as I can see that is a no, right?
Why should Epic Games do that then?
Competitors engines have better compatibility layers for older engine versions that allows less maintenance of code and assets. Content creators as well as developers don’t need to continously update all the previous code and check for compatibility. That is the main serious with Unreal Engine right now. It is up to Epic Games to find a solution. They need to add compatibility layers so that even outdated/obsolete code written for very old engine versions would still work immediately on the latest version, the engine should be able to do all the conversions needed in the background with no errors. That is what they should do to fix all of . Not raise prices to buyers which would only lower sales.

Because it creates an environment where content creators are rewarded for hard work, which leads to better content, which leads to more people using the content. Positive spirals are a win for everyone.
The engine version incompatibility was just a specific example of the general condition I was illustrating. The general condition is that the marketplace item could be significantly improved for subsequent versions of the marketplace item, and there will be previous buyers of the previous version (Me!) who would be willing to pay for the next version of updated stuff. Supporting that in the infrastructure of the marketplace can lead to marketplace creators being better able to establish a presence where they focus on a smaller number of items that they publish, but they really focus on making them shine. Instead, what we have now is creators saying “Sorry, not going to update it. The people who wanted it already bought it…so…I gotta make a living. Bye.”
Not supporting such a scheme means that successful marketplace content will get orphaned, because with a niche product you can’t sustain a large number of purely new buyers to make it worth the creator’s time to upgrade their content. Which means the content languishes.
is a very established pattern in productivity tools, and that is ultimately what a lot of marketplace items are (the blueprints and C++ plugins, anyway).
A second useful strategy in space is the free demo. You let people try out your stuff and see if it works for them, and if it does then they buy it. I’m not sure how that could be implemented in context, but if it could be, that could also help the Marketplace itself out.
Yet another obvious benefit to everyone would be to provide version/platform filtering in the Marketplace UI. If I want something that works with version 4.14 on PS4, then it would be nice to not have to wade through several hundred incompatible items before finding that there just isn’t anything that matches that criteria.

is what I thought you were referring to right at the beginning.
Unity supports and I’ve been more than happy to buy upgrades for items which have been revised with additional features.

^- Exactly!
Can somebody inform me how an item is selected for the features page? It seems to be random. Right now there are a few items there that were just released and dont have any ratings, but when my pack was released it was never on the featured page…and even now that it has great ratings, other items with lower ratings are on the featured page. Im just not sure how it all works.
Also, is it possible to contact everyone who has purchased your pack? As far as I can tell there is no way to view who has purchased it, let alone message them.

It’s either random or editor choice. Each week 4-6 products from released 25-30 products are featured for whole week.

80% of released assets never see the frontpage so it’s kinda ok to expect that you won’t be featured. You will if you’re lucky

It’s either part of week release or old community choices from 2016. November choice will go away next week and December will go in February. You can read about it Community interest poll there

No, sadly sellers can’t get access to such information

Ok thats good to know! Thanks for the speedy and detailed response!
Hi there. The Guidelines for Marketplace submissions are repeating every step:
I’m talking about “Preparing your assets : XYZ”
Shouldn’t the folder structure, Overview Map etc mentioned once, but only the Technical Specification of the Assets for each?
Some feedback. If I’m posting it in the wrong place - please move to appropriate thread.
- Why can’t we just select desired currency for marketplace? I’d prefer to see prices in USD or at least UAH. RUB feels like such a random choice.
- Would be nice to have lots of sorting options: name, date, recently added/updated, by price, by author etc.
- Some sort of tag system that would be displayed on each item and allow to sort by it. For example, atm there is just one big “weapon” category. Tags might be: firearms, modern, medieval, melee, fantasy, high-tech etc.
Watchlist like would be good too and sort items by discount %
Give us an ability to Bookmark/Favorite an asset so we can return later to purchase it

And missing these features, simple ones like a “shopping cart” or “favorites” is pretty important to securing more profit.
You kept saying budget but these sets are not incredible complicated or expensive features to add to a web app… Especially for a company that just hands out 5 million dollars to whoever they feel like it.
