THE FUTURE OF UNREAL ENGINE

Hello, solo game dev here,

i like game design and the creative aspects of UE5, i’m learning so much, i’m here for just a moment to reflect on my current experiences with dealing with this engine, to ensure its success and to exert itself into the future of gaming. I’m pretty proficient and i wouldn’t say i’m so uneducated in game dev, i’m actually probably near adept to its practice. I just want to lay it all out here, so we don’t get it twisted. Game dev is hard. And i’m not saying anything new when i say that but i think epic games overestimates its useability. For 1 person the task of creating a game world with stories, complexities and features can be burdensome. yes i know. i should just read the documentation and i must be some sort of a noob but i disagree. 1 simple task in Unreal Engine can take HOURS to work through and understand, you can just look at the YouTube tutorials and the video lengths, you can see. i was trying to create a custom meta human, something that should be as simple as export, sculpt, paint and import, and i found tutorials that are just BURDENED with nodes, scripts, buttons, options and like yes i understand its part of the technical freedom but a task as simple as sculpting a bit and painting a bit shouldn’t take multiple hours to achieve or go through all those in between tasks. and why is the metahumans head disconnected with its body?? like there just seems like a lot of stuff can get simplified. I just hope, let this be a message to epic games, hopefully they hear me, i hope that you can get 1 guy to take that hour of game dev and create simplified solutions, not all of us has to learn everything, we should work together to make this engine perfect. I’m more artsy, but i know a thing or two about the engine, there is just. so. much. I think epic games should make everything more streamline, screw blender, substance painter and zbrush, if you can make it more simple by incorporating your own built in modeling tools or what not, you can own the industry. The all in 1 software, textuing, scupting, animating, if you can make it simple by merging processes, it’d be a hit. We are not dumb. Game dev has just become so grand, it swallows your life away. Cutting down on nodes, making independent simple easy blueprints, would be so good. Instead of a skeletal mesh blueprint, there should be the firearm and melee blueprint, just condense the code you know. take away nodes that seem to just be extra steps, cache’ing, should be all built into the engine, yes, having the options are nice but the extra nodes should be optional. But ya, less nodes and more simplified methods. The perfect engine, the future, is when 1 man can create whole AAA games in 1 week. you may laugh and think its impossible but i vision it happening. I remember playing little big planet and using its simple logic, although limited it allowed you to have a full creation in a game session. I think that is what that “Everywhere” game will be like, simple logic user creation. I like UE5, i don’t think i’ll ever quit but it’d be such a blast to have a immensely less difficult experience. You’d see a lot more finished games epic can sell MILLIONS of copies, having it free for everyone to use is so important. most people it ain’t even about the money, just the love for creation. once these solo games start releasing, epic can get a boatload of dollars flowing, they may not all sell or take home as much cash as expected, but having a user friendly system, can take it to endless lengths. everyone will be using it. which if everyone is using it, there is a market. even if its just selling side content, people have eyes on fortnite for a reason even if its not everyones slice of cheese. epic games is EPIC. engine perfection will come when features, ideas, logic, won’t take hours to achieve. just 30 seconds. like the built in day and night cycle, that used to take wayyy longer to setup, node after, node, now its as simple as a click of a plugin! if you can do that with the whole engine, oh my BEST GAME ENGINE EVER!!! THANKS FOR READINGGGG

haha :joy:.seeing your description makes me laugh I don’t know why.

Yep I partially agree with you.
while the engine has simplified a lot work flows which I’m very appreciated.

but if there were some build-in lighting presets.I know each game has different art style.

But they definitely can be summarized, filtered out a certain common characteristics.

have some artists to make some different build-in scene appearances for users to choose just like these default game templates,or preset post-process volume.

that would be Invincible.

oh for sure! i do believe creators should have the options to expand their development technical complexities such and lighting, rendering or innovations. i just think someone should look at what most games want and need and make simple ways to work with them. one day i hope it will be easy as 1 node checkbox yes or no to multiplayer, gun blueprint, drag and drop sounds, skeletal model, and animations and call it a day, after you setup what type of damage the bullets do of course! its straight mental illness to setup directional outputs, velocity, procedural recoil, like it should be all there already, checkbox is this gun shoot bullets or big bullets that go crazy, just 1 slider scale from 1 to 100, how shaking and crazy does this thing shoot, knockback, yes or no checkbox, of course, have opens to expand, maybe it shoots u across the map but a golden standard is more appropriate to for solving simple solutions. my game would be so grand and large if it wasn’t so large of a task to setup simple things. i want to make all custom characters, how am i supposed to do that when i have to fry my retinas on a computer screen for hours just on 1 character model? ya feel me? anyway, thanks for readingg!!!
