Does this mean that you are abandoning The Art of Combat (and your customers of that system)?
Its not only melee, it contains ranged (im rly happy with this new feature i was expecting this for long time). I mean its a new product, so you will have to upgrade i guess.
Lol, no of course not. I’m NOT abandoning The Art of Combat, it’s just that this new pack is that brilliant (at least I think so lol). I’m working on something special and exclusive for the customers of The Art of Combat as a very big thank you. It’s cos of your patronage and support that I was able to get this far. I really appreciate it. The special will be available as an update for The Art of Combat.
In Japanese, “So no toori desu!”. In English, “That’s exactly it.”
Hi guys,
I could just create a poll for this, but I’d like to hear your thoughts as well. So like I said, I wanna do something special for you guys, and while I have some ideas, I feel I should at least listen to what you’d like.
Now what I’m going to design will be in the form of a component that can be easily attached to any actor, so basically plug and play.
If you have something you’d like to see in The Art of Combat, just pitch it here in this thread. It could be unique or basic, simple or complex. I think I’m confident enough to design ANYTHING in blueprints (I’m really hot for a challenge right now).
Of course if it’s beyond my powers, I’ll declare that right away, but I doubt it’ll be, so pitch it anyway. You’ll be helping me get stronger, and helping yourself as well.
Pitch!
P.S: Of course, if no one pitches I’ll just go ahead and do whatever I like for the special. It’ll still be good. If you’re going to pitch though, make it interesting :D. Looking forward to it.
Still waiting for the first pitch.
Quick bump.
C’mon people. Don’t be afraid. Pitch.
Hmm, how about a new movement mode? Like a really well done grappling hook or wall-run?
I guess I’m a bit confused about what this pitch is for exactly. Is it meant to be the “exclusive” thing for previous buyers (and any new people that buy TAoC?) Also, this is something that won’t be included in the new system that we’ll all need to re-buy since it doesn’t appear to be an update? – so it’ll be missing the special feature?..just a bit confusing is all
Hi,
Yeah, this special will be exclusive to The Art of Combat. The successor is an entirely new project on its own. So basically, if you’re comfy with TAOC, you’re okay. So purchasing the new pack is not a ‘re-buy’. You’re not purchasing The Art of Combat twice. Once you get The Art of Combat, you get all the updates to it, and that’s what this special is - an update for The Art of Combat. The successor is a new product. So in fact, there’s no need to call it special or exclusive, but I kinda just went with the atmosphere at the time of writing. I’m really psyched.
I hope it’s clearer now. So basically, me asking for your pitch is me asking for what you want as an update for TAOC.
Interesting idea. I hadn’t thought about grappling, but now I probably will :). Wall running has been on my to-do list for a while, so I might just get to it. I’ll choose one pitch in the end, or the one with the most votes/most requested, so just feel free to run wild with your ideas. But yeah, both of your ideas are quite good, and importantly, possible. Thanks.
Rope/pole climbing, stealth mechanics?
Ah nice, stealth. Stealth mechanics are already in the successor, but I could design a more elaborate one for TAOC. Rope/pole climbing is also a good idea. Keep them coming.
Yeah dude movement!! art of combat can be really cool with a high mobility system not something like assassins creed which is rly cool but something similiar, the idea of interact with the enviro/props. well im in the same lane with cmcginn :P, but if u want different ideas a talent system could be a MAJOR FEATURE, so you can unlock different sword styles, katana, saber, rapier, etc… (different weapons, different combat styles) & combo system based on those talents aaaaaand maybe im annoying but including dodge/ stealth skills could be cool as u know a combat system is not only based on deealing damage some tactical skills can be included u know. thanks for reading
Thanks Nef10. Now we’re talking.
First of all, I just wanna clarify that The Art of Combat does have a really good dodge/evade system. In fact, I made sure to design a Responsive Evade system for it, so if you’ve bought it you know it’s in there. And of course it’s cool :D.
Also, you mentioned a system for different combat styles and weapon sets. Again, if you’ve used TAOC, you’d be immediately aware that there’s an elaborate, over-the-top, very detailed Moveset Control Component in there, which basically does what you’re asking in terms of the ability to switch entire movesets/combat styles at runtime (or anytime really), and there is also a Weapon Switching Section in the Manne_BP blueprint that works seamlessly with the Moveset Control Component, so when you switch to Sword, your weapon is a sword, switch to unarmed combat and you have your hands, switch to a dagger style and you have daggers, and so on. The applications are really endless if you just experiment.
Now in terms of a talent system though, that is basically what the RPG component in the successor is about. But nothing is stopping TAOC from having its own.
And lastly, a serious mobility system and interaction. I like both ideas, and to be honest, I think I’m liking the idea of interaction the most. Especially if you include destructible mesh blueprints and primitive blueprints like ledgers, elevators, teleporters, bouncers, environment hazards, doors (of course lol) and so on. Brilliant idea there mate.
I guess more what im saying is that I feel a lot of people will opt for the successor, since as you describe sounds as its supposed to be everything TAoC is and more. Having some exclusive stuff strictly in TAoC almost seems unfair to the buyers of the “better” version. Why not just combine them into one and make the “ultimate” version, rather than having people evaluate the pros of an upgraded version, that’s missing the new features? Just a thought.
In my view you should make the new features an update to the Art of Combat and then raise the price of the package. In that case you reward the customers that supported you and plus you set the foundations for better profits with the new package
100% agree. Having 2 different packages is silly and makes me regret buying TAoC if it’s just rendered obsolete
Edit:: To be clear, I’d even prefer an expansion being released, that requires TAoC. That way buying TAoC isn’t going to waste, and if a previous supporter wants the upgraded features, they’re able to get the expansion on it without moving to a new system
@SpreadTheBlood, @romfeo,
Thanks guys, there are some interesting ideas here as well. I had been thinking about the most efficient way to release this successor, and just figured I’d make it a new one. I see the potential of making it an update, but then the price might be too high for most people, even if it will be the most ultimate of ultimate combat systems. Then there’s the idea of an expansion. The new pack is designed to be standalone, so to make it an expansion, I’d have to include a dependency for the successor in The Art of Combat. Or something like that. Well it’s not released yet, so I guess I still have some time to think about it. I got requests for early access as well, so there’s quite a bit in terms of deployable options.
