Temples of Cambodia Relighting in UE5.5

Hi guys!

During the last two weekends I spent my time dealing with the relighting of this scene, wanting to push on realism as I got inspired and deeply digged into the two parts NVIDIA-Studio session about creating physical accurate lighting for real cameras featuring the great lighting artist Pasquale Scionti.

I thought to took advantage of the latest branch of Unreal 5.5 to discover the power of Megalights. And I was just impressed about it. It’s been possible to have a light source on every single candle I placed in the scene (+ various other area lights to fill the atmosphere) without noticeble FPS drops.

Also candle lights uses physical accurate values, meaning either in terms of light temperature, intensity and source radius. Thinking about making a video about the various type of light sources, but this would take a huge amout of time to be done

Hi there @Stefano_Cardia,

Hope you’re well and having a great week so far!

This environment is out of this world. The lighting, scale, and architecture are all stunning. Incredible work, honestly. I hope you end up finding the time to make the light source video, would be a great “tutorial-lite”.

Thanks a lot man! However I was busy here only on lighting the scene. The maps are to be fund inside the scene by Scans Factory which is on fab ( link in video description - couple months ago it was available for free, I took the chance so). I will take the compliment just for the ligthing though

Hello @Stefano_Cardia !

Exploring this project is very fascinating. I can see where your work went into the lighting but also how you try to highlight the age of the temple with your textures. I know it may seem a little simple, but it’s the consistency throughout that matters as well as different texturing for the different areas.

I know you mentioned that you might want to make a showcasing Megalights and I think that would be a good idea if it’s something you wish to go through. There may be so many people out there who don’t know the high customizability that could see your video and use it to propel themselves forward in their projects!

Ah I see  Glad it was the lighting that impressed me the most then :joy:
