Additional Notes
This has been a longstanding issue which has personally prevented me from releasing a 5 year old project until it is fixed due to high memory costs on UEFN. The bug is particularly harmful because it doesn’t show up until the island is published, meaning that a creative user can make a fully functioning map with over 16 teams, only for the team select to not work after it’s published.
Yes, this is an issue and has been posted about quite a few times, like AtAshTag, @PledgedRanger (tagged for voting) and a few others have struggled with this for ages.
I haven’t seen a post about it recently so I thought it may have been fixed, been designing a game using more than 16 teams… hmmm back to the drawing board…
Recently I had problems with class selectors failing to change class when entered and changed them to use on button interact instead, which works.
I don’t know if this is common to all, I thought there were some maps that worked using 100 teams for FFA to get around the old game ends in a draw bug. or if its a bug that results from certain combinations or a bug that affects randomly.
It’s not an islands settings issue. The team count for the map is set to 60, and it employs no team identifiers above 60. If you personally know a workaround in the island settings, please enlighten me. It would make my life way easier.
I recently noticed certain island settings (team related) will not allow to switch team. But if you use the defaults it works 100%.
I was hoping to see if you use the default team related settings before suggesting my Verse tutorial. But now when you know about the defaults you can compare/test yourself.
Which island settings allowed class selectors to access teams 17-100? I’m having a hard time believing what you’re saying, but if you have a way of switching people to those teams in normal creative mode, please tell me what those settings are. I’m pretty sure the default setting is free for all though no?
If you have hard time believing you can only test and see for yourself.
I use same approach to team management in all my maps it always works whether I need only two teams between rounds or individual team for each person or role based game or hostile or friendly npc.
You can always wait for the fix of course
If you create a new proj it will have all default settings
In the documents it says changing teams with a class selector will force the player to respawn.
I have been confused about this for a while, It doesn’t force a respawn, a lot of games don’t respawn on team change, but is respawning necessary to stick the changes for higher team numbers.
This is the default setting; it can be turned off and only affects players stepping directly into the volume, not triggering a team switch through events.
Here’s video proof of the bug on a fresh island. Free for all doesn’t work, and neither does 100 teams. If there is a different setting you’re referring to, let me know please!
Would love to wait for the fix if it hadn’t gone unattended to for over a year. A bit worried they’re just leaving creative 1.0 in the dust at this point, but the evidence is here.
The bug has been reproduced in the above reply^^
Thank you for taking the time to respond to these issues, and let me know if there’s anything else you need!
Thank you for the tag! Hope all is going well! I was able to fix the previously reported bug but I had to duplicate my map Plunder the caves and start over 3 times lol. It seemed to be better resolved using spawners, then mutators inside class selectors assigned to switch teams event on the class selector, then forcing each player to register into a player reference event and registering the player then on update fails the next player reference per team than teleporting the player reference with @AtAshTag s help and assistance using player counter. I would delete the class selector material and refresh it. Delete undo then Cut and paste the class selector. Publish. Repeat publish repeat test private version. Then I deleted and replaced the teams settings devices. It threw a bug corruption . Then no devices in my content browser. All Fortnite assets would disappear from content browser except a few. Then I verified game files nothing helped. I uninstalled reinstalled fortnite. Then the project all red errors in the outliner and I had a validation error on every single device (over 3600) in the map. I had to continually delete and replace each one when they reappeared in my content browser.
Long story short, it happened three times to me and the third time was after I published. Then when it was all fixed it was too late for the game on the algorithm so I let it go.
I think you can try ticking the class sector settings over and over and setting them cutting and pasting them to freak out the validation bug that causes this glitch. Also sometimes if team 1 gold chooses team two silver , the scoreboard will reverse the colors so team gold players become silver and silver team becomes gold, resulting in play testing groups like FCHQ to disqualify creators because their map is so confusing.
It’s been broken for some creators over a year now. I meant by mine is fixed by abandoning the project
