Support for Space Navigator 3D Mouse?

Hey there, have there been any updates on this?

+1

This really needs to get done!!

+1  Looking forward to this.

Same here, I think the day it will show up weā€™ll all celebrate and dance naked around a fire.

Any updates on this? Would be really nice and helpful to have this done.

I think all the people in this thread would really appreciate some news from somebody at Epic on the status of Space Navigator integration.

Please let us know what is happening.

It would be very much appreciated

No news yet? My space navigator pro just arrived and Iā€™m getting used to it for using it in 3dcoat and blender, it would be great to be able to use it to move the camera and even place objects in UE4ā€¦

You would think that Epic can afford to pay itā€™s developers to get this done.
Not only is this requested MANY times, not only is the navigation in the editor below par,
but there are MANY competitors already utilizing this! Unity, Ogre, Irrlicht, and many others already have support for this.

I am not saying UE4 is bad, but I am saying there needs to be support for 3D mice and the editor navigation needs some revamping.

My guess is that thereā€™s not enough interest in itā€“sure people have posted here, but thatā€™s like 20 people

This thread has more than 6,000 views. Thereā€™s also numerous other threads on forums asking for the same thing in this and other programs. ā€œNot enough interestā€ is not the case.

Itā€™s good to see the unreal developer did respond earlier and mentioned the change was not trivial, requiring tricky coding.

3DConnexion who make the space navigator mouse say itā€™s an easy and free API for the host developer to integrate. But it seems that isnā€™t the whole story. Same thing is happening over at Reallusion with iClone not supporting the space navigator mouse, even though itā€™s been requested since 2007.

Those who have never used the space navigator mouse donā€™t understand just how good it is. Itā€™s a quality little device, solid, really nice for moving around 3d space ergonomically and precisely. Anything that improves ergonomics and efficiency in the 3d workspace should be supported and encouraged.

In case there are people who are reading this thread and donā€™t know what a 3D Mouse is, please look at the following link.

http://www.3dconnexion.com/products/spacemouse/spacenavigator.html

It is supported by hundreds of applications. Even Blender supports it.

Why Epic chooses not to support it is simply beyond me.

I think perhaps people in this thread should start talking about how useful it is in their workflows.

Perhaps this will help convince Epic of the value of putting a couple programmers on it.

+1 to wanting, no, needing this support.

new user here - would love 3dconnexion supported

In case there are people who are unaware that this topic has been contiuously discussed for over a year now, please use the forum search :stuck_out_tongue:

Ther have been a lot of discussion back and forth. The way I understood it, there seems to be some difficulty license wise.
A guy from Epic started with some preliminary work and then needed some support from 3dconnexion and what came out of it was the discovery (at least thats how I understood it), that it would require using some licensed code that cant ship with UE4.
So easy integration is off the table. :frowning: And recreating the 3dconnexion api from scratch (without infringing IP) is not something Epic seems to keen to wantā€¦

Well, I really think that EPIC should simply make a decision on this and stop all the confusion.

If they are not going to implement Space Navigator functionality, they should just say so.

18 months are weā€™re still nowhere :frowning:

Any updates Mr. ā€œMaxā€ Preussner?

ā€œMaxā€ Preussner a Sr. Engine Programmer here with Epic Games stated in this thread in late March 2015 that other high priority tasks has kept him and his team from moving with this support. So, I reached out to 3Dconnexion and implored them work with Epic about getting their products supported in hopes that they can assist Epic with supporting their mice and move it to a higher priority ranking. I used their Contact page (http://www.3dconnexion.com/contact.html) to send a message, perhaps we should all do the same. And Iā€™ll send another message out asking for an update.

Hey all,

I checked in on Max regarding the status of this, and there is no update to report. Other tasks still hold priority over 3D mouse support, however it is something that we would like to revisit before another year has passed.

Hi ;

Thank you very much for getting back to us with this news.

It is very much appreciated.
