Sunlight rendering differently to when in editor

Been trying to get my directional light to work properly as you can see in the pictures when in the editor the lighting looks somewhat realistic. But when packaged and opened in game looks really bad. However the underground lighting from other sources does look good in game which is making me think ive done something weird with the setup? Ive included pictures.

I have tried a bunch of things already but was wondering if anyone knows what might be causing such a dramatic change to the sunlight.

This last one shows how the lighting underground lit by other sources is ok. Apologies for replying to my own post but it will only let me upload one image per post. Has anyone encountered something similar or does someone cleverer than me know why my sunlight is weird?
