Because I’ve been trying to do that for months I’ll share my findings. To export a scene in youtube VR / Gear VR, just like K&L Insurgent:
- Capture the scene with the ExportObjectPlugin developed by Allar: 360 Panoramic Export Pipeline - Released Projects - Unreal Engine Forums . Easy to setup.
- You’ll obtain 2 .HDR files for each frames captured (left and right eye). So for instance you captured 30 secs at 30 fps, you’ll obtain 1800 .HDR files. Each file is 4096x2048.
- With Photoshop I converted the .HDR files into .PSD
- I import the 1800 .PSD files into Premiere. Pu them in a 4096x4096 sequence at 30 fps. Left at the top, Right at bottom. Do whatever effects/montage needed.
- Export in AVI, No codec, 4096x4096, 30 fps, Aspect 1:1, 32-bits, Progressive
- With the wonderful tool from Purple Pill VR http://www.purplepillvr.com/best-encoding-settings-resolution-for-4k-360-3d-vr-videos/ , convert your raw video to Rift, Gear VR, Android, or Youtube format.
- You’re done! If you want to publish it on Youtube, you just have to add VR metadata to your file with the app https://github.com/google/spatial-media/releases/download/v2.0/360.Video.Metadata.Tool.win.zip
The only thing for now it seems to have a problem with particles as you can see in the first seconds of my video. Probably by rotating the virtual camera at a different angle would correct the problem for now.
The final 2 minutes capture (it’s very dark that’s normal it’s a night scene): A Mod
I wanted first to export in 4096x4096 1:1 high-bitrate h265 for MilkVR, but Media Encoder/Premiere always gives me a low-level error. Guess it doesn’t matter really much now.
