Strange glare in HMD when standing under spotlights

I have a few spotlights on my ceiling and, as I walk around the scene in VR, I often get a glare in the HMD view — but never in the normal PIE. Even worse, it often only happens in one eye. This happens if the spotlights are static, stationary or movable. This happens in both 4.11 and 4.12.

It goes away if I turn off bloom but I unfortunately need bloom for this particular project.

Hello ,

I have a few questions for you that will help narrow down what issue it is that you are experiencing.

Quick questions:

  1. Can you reproduce this issue in a clean project?
  2. If so, could you provide a detailed list of steps to reproduce this issue on our end?
  3. Could you provide screen shots of any settings/blueprints that may be involved with this issue?
  4. What VR device are you using?
  5. Does this happen with any other types of lights?
  6. When you say that you are testing in VR, do you mean VR preview?
  7. Does this issue still occur if you package the project out?

Thanks for the response Rudy!

  1. I’ve run into it with two different projects but I wasn’t able to (quickly) reproduce it just now with a clean one. I’ll have to dig around more to see exactly what triggers it, unfortunately.
  2. Apparently not at the moment. I’ll update this once I can.
  3. One of the projects that exhibits the behavior has no blueprints at all - it’s just meshes and lights. There aren’t any atypical settings I can think of.
  4. I’ve only noticed it with spotlights. However, now that I think about it, perhaps it’s a combination of using a fill point light in the middle with a bunch of spotlights on the ceiling. Both times I’ve run into this I had a similar setup.
  5. Correct - VR Preview.
  6. Well this is unfortunate. I packaged up the project and couldn’t reproduce it. Now I’m back in the editor and can’t reproduce it there, either! I’ll have to spend some more time on this so I can consistently reproduce it with a simpler project…

Hello ,

If you have/can create a project that reproduces this issue, I could take a look at it if you would like to provide it via a dropbox or google drive link.
