Hey everybody, got a little problem here! Since 4.13, I seem to be getting this issue in limited areas where static meshes receiving a movable light will result in these odd looking blocks of light and shadows. I’ve tried a variety of things to try to identify the issue and its cause, but I can’t seem to resolve it or provide any more information to determine what it is. I thought I’d try and make a post here in case it’s a known problem? Here is a .GIF of the issue:
not 100% certain, but it looks like an issue we’ve encountered as well. our workaround - albeit a bit hacky and certainly not suitable for every situation - is to rotate or move the light a tiny amount. fixes the blocky shadow artifacts for us, but obviously not amazing.
Thanks for the suggestion, Divi, hopefully that’ll help slightly for the time being but there are certain areas where it doesn’t help, so hopefully a further fix can be provided further down the line so we don’t get this issue in our projects.
Just bumping this instead of starting a new post, sadly Divi’s suggestion didn’t help, I’ve identified that it is a problem due to the Light Function material we are using. It seems I can kind of fix it by reducing the attenuation radius for the light with the LF material, but I’d rather find a way to maintain that whilst fixing the problem at the same time. Has anybody else had this issue with an LF Material? Here’s another GIF showing the issue occurring on the right hand side, even with zero player movement it goes crazy in certain areas.
